Abstract

The trend of Islamic sciences in the future, especially kalam Science/Islamic philosophy is a religion sciences that haveto interact and dialogue with modern science, the social sciences and humanities. If scientific Kalam and IslamicPhilosophy felt enough with himself (al-muhafadzah ‘ala al-qadim al-shâlih), refusing to touch and connect with otherscientific (wa al-akhdz bi al- jadid al-ashlah), then there is no future can be expected, morever their contribution to thedevelopment of the nation’s character. This paper describes the themes of what is required to form the new religious(Islamic) worldview that can contribute to the development of the nation’s character. Islamic sciences requires freshijtihad to deal with the contemporary of life, it is not enough just to repeating the experience of the past without lookinghow the development of the present and the future. Abstract

In the global socio-political situation today, where rigid, extreme and radical interpretations of religion are commonly found and widespread, the contribution of Indonesian post-graduate education, especially Islamic higher education, come to the front stage and become a topic of serious discussion. In term of education in Indonesia, there is an unavoidable fact that Islamic education including Islamic higher education is not a new phenomenon. The situation led to the fact that some international Islamic scholars began to consider the Islamic higher education in Indonesia as a potential alternative system of graduate education including religious education and its contents and methods in offering innovation and transformation. This seems to be much more conducive approach and research to local, regional and global community and peace. This article will explain descriptively the long history of Islamic education and its development. It also aims at presenting elaboration on how higher education of indigenous Islam can modify their own teaching and research methodologies to be more relevant to the intellectual development and advancement, especially that of sciences and humanities in particular. The focus will be on: what are the key issues and elements of the Indonesian Islamic higher education leading to significantly change and contribute to the welfare of the nation and mankind, especially on the development of research which seems to illustrate the weakness of previous educational institutions system  in Indonesia. Moreover, there is one thing to remember that the worldwide academic community cannot wait for any longer the solution strongly expected to reduce the weakness since development of religious education and Islam in the Middle East, South Asia, and some parts of the Muslim world is not, more or less, promising for the sake of global humanity, prosperity and peace.[Pada situasi sosial-politik global dewasa ini, ketika interpretasi agama yang rigid, ekstrim dan radikal meluas dan mudah dijumpai, kontribusi pendidikan tinggi, khususnya perguruan tinggi Islam, harus tampil dan menjadi bahan diskusi serius.

Abstract

This article explores the mapping of the development of Islamic studies from its inception to the present, which consists of three waves. The first wave was the study of Islam by internal Muslims themselves. This period lacks comprehensive factors to categorize as an academic study. The second wave was Islamic studies carried out by experts from outside Islam who were called orientalists. This wave of Islamic study involves academically sufficient methodology. Meanwhile, the third wave is generally carried out by internal groups of Muslims who are enlightened and equipped with contemporary sciences, especially humanities.[Tulisan ini berisi pemetaan perkembangan studi Islam dari awal pertumbuhannya hingga masa sekarang, yang dapat dipilah menjadi tiga gelombang.

Abstract

Abstract

An everlasting and perpetual peace in the life of different religious adherents anywhere is the prime purpose of human beings. This article will discuss the methods and approaches of religious education in a contemporary multicultural society. Three approaches to the study of religion: dogmatic, critical, and ethical will be elaborated simultaneously. One cannot rely solely on one approach and neglects the two others without having their implications and consequences in the life of multi-religious society. In addition to the religious and Islamic studies perspectives, I will elaborate the issues based on philosophical concepts, i.e. subjective, objective, and intersubjective, as well. The subjective perspective is commonly based on ‘ulūm al-din, meanwhile the objective one is on social sciences. The combination between the two is called, in this paper, as an intersubjective pattern of religiosity. One of its distinctive features is its sensitivity towards and its ability to accommodate the presence of other communities whose rights are respected and guaranteed.[Kedamaian yang kekal dan abadi bagi semua pemeluk agama yang berbeda di berbagai aspek kehidupannya merupakan tujuan utama dari kemanusiaan.

Abstract

Abstract

Discussing the paradigm of dialogue and integration in the Islamic science of religion is important since the practice of religious education still applies the paradigm of conflict and independence. These paradigms have a great influence on the formation of socio-religious and cultural ways of thinking. The relationship between Islamic religiousc and natural, social, as well as cultural sciences, needs patterns of integrated, interconnected relations and dialogues. Islamic Studies requires a multidisciplinary approach, that is, interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity. Scientific linearity, in which science is narrowly defined and mono-disciplinary, will lead to an understanding of religion and religious interpretations that has no contact with and relevance to the context in which it is studied. New types of religious thought that encourage independent discussion and dialogue on the subjective, objective and intersubjective aspects of science and religion will create the emergence of a new type of religiosity in the multicultural era. All of this requires more effort to undertake a serious reconstruction of scientific methodologies and the methodologies of scientific studies of religion.[Penerapan paradigma dialog dan integrasi dalam ilmu-ilmu keislaman masih penting untuk didiskusikan mengingat praktik pendidikan agama masih menerapkan paradigm konflik dan independen.
