Abstract

In general of this research is to examine the cultural literacy skills of elementary school students through Social Studies learning based on multicultural education. In particular, the specific targets to be achieved are as follows: (1). Implementing multicultural education in elementary Social Studies learning in elementary schools; (2). Knowing the responses of teachers and students to Social Studies learning based on multicultural education: (3). Improving the cultural literacy skills of elementary school students in Social Studies learning based on multicultural education. The research method used is qualitative. The research procedure was carried out through the following stages; the initial observation of the learning process, then in the implementation of the research a pretest was carried out to determine the student's initial knowledge, the implementation of Social Studies learning based on multicultural education, and giving a final test or posttest. The results of the study were based on the results of the pretest and post-test data processing of cultural literacy skills using the test instrument, the results showed that Social Studies learning based on multicultural education obtained a significant increase. This can be seen from the average value of student learning scores at the time of the pre-test which obtained a result of 65.00 and the post-test obtained an average score of 85.57. The average value of increasing students' cultural literacy is in the very good category and can be seen from the acquisition of the highest score during the posttest which reached a score of 95.00. From the results of the data analysis, it is known that there is an increase in the cultural literacy of fourth-grade elementary school students in Social Studies learning based on better multicultural education

Abstract

This research has several objectives, including to find out; (1) increasing the application of the role playing learning model to students' ability to understand concepts; (2) student responses to learning using the role playing learning model; and (3) the obstacles faced by teachers in implementing learning using role playing models. The method used is a mix method with a sequential explanatory design. The research was located at Sukasari State Elementary School with research subjects of 30 class IV students. Data collection techniques through tests (pretest and posttest), observation sheets, interviews, and also questionnaires. Based on quantitative data obtained through the Ngain test, there was an increase in the ability to understand concepts in class IV students with an N-Gain score of 0.55 which was categorized as moderate. And the N-Gain Percent value is 55.7% with effective criteria. The qualitative data obtained, namely student responses, showed that the majority of students felt that the role playing model was interesting and fun, and made it easier for them to understand the material. Through interviews, the teacher revealed several obstacles, such as some students feeling less confident or reluctant to participate in role playing activities, then implementing role playing syntax requires time-consuming preparation when creating clear and interesting scenarios, and controlling the course of role playing so that it remains conducive.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine PGSD students' cultural literacy abilities to adapt to the diversity of the nation, including how to behave, how to communicate, and how to interact between one and another through an Indonesian student exchange program. In this program students from several universities were united in an online learning process and it was hoped that through this program every student had the ability to understand various ethnic groups, languages, beliefs, habits, customs, and social strata as a national identity. This study utilized a descriptive method with the research subjects of PGSD students in "PERMATA" program from several universities in Indonesia. The instruments used in this study were open questionnaires, interviews, documents, and field notes. Research result revealed that online learning conducted on PGSD students in “PERMATA” program provided a positive impact on students’ cultural literacy. Students could easily adapt to various differences that exist in accordance with their respective cultural conventions. This could be seen from the beginning of the meeting, in which students were able to communicate well and to respect others by speaking with various intonations according to their respective cultural habits; the students shared information about the culture in their area; they appeared to respect and to appreciate each other when giving ideas to each other. This research concluded that online learning through PERMATA program was effective in increasing the cultural literacy of PGSD students.
