Abstract

Hydroponics is a farming method in which plant nutrients are provided by a nutrient solution dissolved in water. Hydroponic systems are classified into two types, namely substrate systems and systems without substrate. The media used in hydroponics is organic media. Organic media have different physical and chemical structures compared to inorganic media. This media has durability as a strong support which has a good effect on plants such as being a good nutrients storage place. Green mustard plants with fibrous roots that grow and spread in all directions, no plants form around the soil surface. Mustard greens have short, straight stems that are planted on the ground. The leaves on the green mustard plant are round, glabrous, and light to dark green in color.

Abstract

Abstract

Tanaman Jeruju (Acanthus ilicifolius L.) merupakan salah satu jenis mangrove yang memiliki banyak manfaat, salah satunya adalah pemanfaatannya untuk membuat teh dengan campuran jahe (Zingiber officinale). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan analisis data kuantitatif untuk menguji kadar antioksidan dan kadar flavonoid pada berbagai formulasi, yaitu 80%: 20%, 70%: 30%, 60%: 40%, dan 50%: 50%. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menggunakan metode survei dengan analisis data kualitatif untuk menguji sifat organoleptik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formulasi dengan 50% jeruju dan 50% jahe memiliki kadar antioksidan dan kadar flavonoid total tertinggi. Dari segi organoleptik, formulasi 60%: 40% mendapatkan nilai tertinggi dari segi kesukaan yaitu 56%, sedangkan dari segi aroma, formulasi 60%: 40% mendapatkan nilai tertinggi yaitu 75%. Dari segi rasa, formulasi 50%:50% mendapatkan nilai tertinggi yaitu 75,6%, dan dari segi warna, formulasi 50%:50% mendapatkan nilai tertinggi yaitu 80,4%.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of auxin (IBA) and cytokinin (BAP) application on avocado (Persea americana) in improving grafting success. The method used was a factorial randomized block design (RBD) of 3×3 with three replications. The observed parameters included the percentage of graft survival, time to bud emergence, number of buds, bud length, and number of leaves. The results showed that the application of IBA and BAP significantly affected the time to bud emergence and bud length, but had no significant effect on the percentage of graft survival, number of buds, and number of leaves. In conclusion, growth hormones can accelerate the initial physiological response in grafting, although they do not always impact overall vegetative growth.  Keywords: Avocado, BAP, Grafting, IBA, Persea americana

Abstract

Red guava (Psidium guajava L.) has antioxidants that can prevent or inhibit the oxidation process inhibit the oxidation process. The purpose of the study was to determine the amount of comparison the highest vitamin C and antioxidant levels between fresh red guava and packaged red guava. red guava fruit in packaging. The research method used was quantitative quantitative method by free radicals DPPH (Diphenyl Picrylhydrazyl). The results of the study found that fresh red guava vitamin C guava has a level of 0.70 mg/100 grams higher than the packaged vitamin C of 0.43 mg/100 grams packaged at 0.43 mg/100 grams. IC50 value of red guava value of 194.22 ppm which is categorized as moderate, while the IC50 value in the packaging 516.59 ppm is categorized as very weak.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a digital comic learning media on cell topics and to analyze its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in improving students’ critical thinking skills at grade XI of MAN 3 Medan. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, consisting of define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research instruments included validation sheets from material and media experts, teacher and student response questionnaires, as well as pretest and posttest assessments. The validation results showed that the digital comic media was categorized as highly valid, with a score of 93.9% from media experts and 87.8% from material experts. Practicality testing indicated a teacher response score of 87% and a student response score of 81.9%, both classified as very practical. The effectiveness analysis showed an increase in the average learning outcomes from 82.96% in the pretest to 89.26% in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.31, which falls into the moderate category. This result was influenced by the high initial ability of the students. In conclusion, the developed digital comic media is valid, practical, and moderately effective in supporting the improvement of students’ critical thinking skills on cell material. Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of chicken manure and Trichoderma sp. on the growth and health of shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.). The study was conducted in June–July 2025 at the Greenhouse of the State Islamic University of North Sumatra using a factorial randomized block design (RAK) with two factors. The first factor was the dose of chicken manure (P0 = 0 g, P1 = 100 g, P2 = 120 g, P3 = 140 g), and the second factor was the dose of Trichoderma sp. (T0 = 0 g, T1 = 25 g, T2 = 30 g, T3 = 35 g). The two factors were combined into 16 treatments with three replicates. The parameters observed included plant height, number of leaves, number of wilted leaves, root length, fresh weight, and dry weight of plants. The data were analyzed using ANOVA and followed by DMRT test at the 5% level. The results showed that chicken manure and Trichoderma sp. had a significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight, dry weight, and were able to suppress leaf wilting symptoms, but had no significant effect on root length. The combination of treatments yielded the best results compared to single treatments, especially at chicken manure doses P2–P3 and Trichoderma sp. T3. Thus, the application of chicken manure combined with Trichoderma sp. has the potential to optimize shallot growth in an environmentally friendly manner.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of NPK fertilizer, IBA, and GA3 on the vegetative growth of carrot plants (Daucus carota L.) in an aeroponic system. The study also employed a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments, namely control (P0), NPK 50 ml/L (P1), IBA 100 ml/L (P2), and GA3 25 ml/L (P3), each replicated three times. The observed parameters included plant height, stem diameter, number of leaves, root length, root surface area, and root volume. The results of the study showed that the application of NPK fertilizer had the most significant effect on vegetative growth, particularly in plant height, number of leaves, and root development, with an average increase of up to 50% compared to the treatments from the hormones. IBA hormone also plays a role in root formation and plant growth, while GA3 hormone increases plant height although with less influence compared to NPK and IBA. Thus, the aeroponics system combined with liquid NPK fertilizer has proven effective in supporting the vegetative growth of carrots.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an interactive media-based E-Magazine that is feasible, practical, and effective in enhancing students’ creativity on biodiversity material at SMAS Al-Ma’shum Kisaran Barat. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D development model, consisting of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research subjects were 32 students of class X-3 at SMAS Al-Ma’shum Kisaran Barat in the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through material and media expert validation sheets, teacher and student response questionnaires, and students’ creativity tests. The results showed that the developed E-Magazine achieved a feasibility score of 92.5%, categorized as highly feasible. The practicality level reached 94.7% based on students’ responses and 95% based on the teacher’s response, both categorized as highly practical. The effectiveness of the E-Magazine was indicated by an increase in students’ average creativity score from 32.19 in the pretest to 83.28 in the posttest, with an N-Gain score of 0.75, which was categorized as high. Therefore, the interactive media-based E-Magazine developed in this study was highly feasible, highly practical, and effective for biology learning and could enhance students’ creativity in biodiversity learning.
