Abstract

A solar-powered ship is a means of marine transportation that is designed in such a way that its use is different from ships in general. This ship relies on solar energy as the main fuel so that this ship uses solar panels to capture sunlight and is stored in batteries/batteries as energy to drive a DC motor so that the electric ship can move stably. The goal is to be able to complete the final task. The method used in this final project uses the method of collecting data by searching for books, journals and modules related to the design title as a reference for the tool that the researcher designed. The result of this design is that the solar powered electric boat with 250 watts of power takes 59 seconds at a distance of 10 meters. 23 cm using a 50 Watt solar panel, 12 Volt Battery/Battery and 12 Volt DC Dynamo/Motor. As a boat engine and also an electric boat, this is very good as an alternative means of transportation that is environmentally friendly with no operational costs and small maintenance costs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the elements copper (Cu) on the mechanical properties of aluminum silicon (Al-Si). The mechanical properties of aluminum are lightweight, low temperature, corrosion resistance, mechanical properties vary (strength, hardness and ductility), good formability, and capable of a good cast. While the mechanical properties of copper are formability, good electrical conductivity, good thermal conductivity, good corrosion resistance, has a density of 8.93 g / cm³, the modulus of elasticity of 115 GPa and liquid temperature 1083 ° C. Materials used were Al-Si and the element copper alloy. The addition of the element copper (Cu) amounting to, 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%. Manufacturing of specimens with sand casting process. Mechanical testing were hardness and impact. In this study get the biggest hardness value alloy Al - Si addressed by the addition of Cu 0% or without alloy of 96.53 Kg / mm2, while the lowest hardness value of alloy Al - Si indicated by the addition of 2% Cu at 63.74 Kg / mm² , The strength values impack alloy Al - Si addressed by the addition of 8% Cu 0.026 J / mm2, while the value of impact strength low alloy Al - Si Cu indicated by the addition of 6% of 0,018 J / mm².

Abstract

Lifting equipment is a tool that can alleviate human tasks in terms of the removal objects that have a weight beyond human ability. Mechanical Engineering laboratory of Halu Oleo University (UHO) has lifting equipment with 500 Kg capacity, but construction of this model is not stable and faltered when lifting the weights. This study aim to improve the ability of this equipment for several purposes as well as to produce a draft model of lifting equipment more powerful, economical and has a good aesthetic design. This study was a static load simulation model using COMSOL Multiphysics. Three variations model (model 1, model 2 and model 3) of the construction were simulated with 500 kg of loads. Power stress distributions on the support constructions is the main point in this research for the powerful and useful construction. Furthermore, the good aesthetic designs the important parameter involving on this models. Result of this study shows that the portable crane existing on the Mechanical laboratories needs some improvements on construction, model and aesthetics for 5000kg loads. Model 3 has more powerful and economically construction as well as better aesthetic value than another models investigated.

Abstract

The characteristics of the flow passing over the structure affect the stability, aerodynamic design and response of the structure to the flow patterns passing over it. This study numerically examines the effects of using a splitter plate on the velocity pattern, pressure, aerodynamic forces and flow deformation at a Reynolds number of 104. This study used a 2D double-type flow splitter on the downstream side with a k-ε turbulent model using ANSYS FLUENT 18.2 software. Numerical simulation results show that the use of splitter plate has changed the flow pattern passing through the square cylinder which is indicated by the reduction of negative flow zone, pressure recovery, and decrease of drag force. The flow deformation pattern is different from the cylinder without a splitter plate. Numerical data are also shown in the form of flow contours to verify the graphical data shown in the present study. This study also shows that the use of a splitter plate also shows different grid sensitivity from a regular square cylinder, so the grid sensitivity validation-verification test of a cylinder with a splitter plate is not recommended for similar cases.
