Abstract

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease in the elderly and attacks the joints and causes mobility problems. Kinesio taping therapy is an alternative treatment to minimize OA. This literature review aims to describe the effect of kinesio taping on mobility ability in knee osteoarthritis patients. The design of this research is Systematic Literature Reviews (SLR) which was obtained based on searching the sources of articles in English and Indonesian in the Public Medline, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases. The article search criteria used in the literature review are articles that use English and Indonesian and are published in 2010-2021. Search articles in the literature review using the appropriate keywords consisting of kinesio taping, mobility, and knee osteoarthritis in order to obtain eight articles in literature journals. The results of a literature review showed that the administration of kinesio taping from 8 articles showed a significant effect on the mobility ability and range of motion of patients with knee osteoarthritis so as to increase mobility (p<0.05). This significant effect is indicated by a decrease in the time required for the timed up and go test (TUG).

Abstract

Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that is commonly found in the elderly and is the leading cause of pain in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Non-pharmacological therapy, such as ultrasound diathermy and microwave diathermy, is one of the treatment options. Thermal therapy and function in tissue regeneration, improving metabolic processes, and lowering inflammation of knee OA are two therapies that have something in common. The aim of the review is to compare the effectiveness of US and MWD on knee OA patients' mobility. analysis was carried out A literature study was conducted using several electronic medical journal databases, including PubMed-NCBI, ProQuest, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. Articles in English and Indonesian published between 2011–2021 qualify for inclusion. In this literature review, ten articles were used. The results of the review found that US and MWD have the same effectiveness in improving body function or mobility in knee OA patients. Six of the seven US articles showed effective results in improving the functional capacity of the body or mobility of knee OA. The three MWD articles also showed effective results in increasing the functional capacity of the body or the mobility of knee OA. Based on the average score of body functional parameters with WOMAC, TUGT, and stiffness, it can be concluded that MWD therapy is better than US in improving mobility function of knee OA

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is the most common complaint of low back pain. One of the treatments that can be done is non-pharmacological therapy, namely therapy IR and low level laser therapy (LLLT). Both have similarities in electromagnetic radiation hyperthermia, and serve to reduce pain severity, reduce disability in low back pain patients. The aim of this literature review is to compare the effectiveness of IR and LLLT in reducing pain in low back pain patients. The writing was done by analyzing the literature from several electronic medical journal databases, namely: PubMed-NCBI, ProQuest, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The criteria for inclusion of articles are articles in English and Indonesian in research published in 2011–2021. There are 5 articles used in this literature review. The results of the review found that IR and LLLT were equally effective in reducing pain in low back pain patients. Three out of five IR articles showed more effective results in reducing low back pain. Two of the five articles of LLLT showed more effective results in reducing low back pain, that IR and LLLT have the same effectiveness in reducing low back pain
