Abstract

Excess supply of labor leads to low the levels of nominal wages received by workers. The amount of minimum wage rate exceeds the market wage rate. The determination of minimum wage is a factor manifested in the institutional and regulatory Provincial Minimum Wage or a District Minimum Wage. Unfortunately, it has made nominal wages  difficult to drop below the minimum wage level. High or low level of nominal wages are associated with worker productivity. Further, nominal wages are rigid to go down. If they have increased, they can not be dropped in the future even though the companys performance is declined. Knowing that condition, in designing the remuneration system, an employer should pay attention to the rigidity of nominal wages, so that when  companys performance declines, the company will not be interfered because of the wages burden.  Furthermore, unions and government should consider the rigidity impact of nominal wages that go down. Thus, when macroeconomic conditions deteriorate and companys performance drops, the company will not go bankrupt due to high labor costs. If the company goes bankrupt, the workers will loose their jobs as a result of employment termination, while the government will face the unemployment problem.

Abstract

One of the development problems that still occurs in Indonesia is the high number of child marriages. From the average figure of 9.23 percent in 2021, it still has to be lowered to achieve the target of 8.74 percent in 2024. This paper aims to look at the number of child marriages per province in Indonesia, because of the impact on child labor, not completing school, as well as policy implications. The results obtained from the literature study show that in 2021 there are 22 provinces that have child marriage rates above the national average. There are even 5 provinces that have increased from 2020. The causes of child marriage are multi-dimensional. Estimates using provincial cross-sectional data show that child marriage in Indonesia has a significant positive influence on child labor rates, on the level of not completed Junior High School education, and level of not completed Senior High School education. It takes a concerted effort from all parties so that the number of child marriages can be reduced significantly.

Abstract

This research aims to investigate the relationship between women's income contributions and the Human Development Index (HDI) for women in Central Java Province over the period from 2014 to 2023. The analysis is based on secondary data provided by the BPS. The study employs a causality test to determine the direction and strength of the relationship between the two variables. The findings reveal that the HDI for women plays a significant role in influencing women's income contributions. Specifically, the HDI, which encompasses indicators such as education, health, and living standards, proves to be a key determinant of the variations in women's economic contributions within the province. This conclusion is supported by the R-squared value of 0.6238, indicating that 62.38% of the changes in women's income contributions can be explained by fluctuations in their HDI. These results highlight the crucial link between human development and women's economic participation, suggesting that policies aimed at improving women’s HDI could lead to greater economic contributions from women in the region. Ultimately, the study provides valuable insights into how enhancing women's overall well-being positively impacts their role in regional economic development.
