Abstract

It is clearly seen that totemism is really attached to the ethnic life of the Asmat. This is because the Asmat is always related to ancestor spirits like performing rituals to wish for their bless and protection. The most important thing to communicate to the spirits is the statue of the ancestors. The Asmat uses animal symbols for they hope that the power and goodness of the totem could be transfered and used in their everyday life. Other than the animal and plant design, there are also other type of totem like human and other things which have symbolic meanings for the Asmat.

Abstract

Death got more attention, in the event of death the funeral ceremony will be performed. In a ceremony tailored to the age and social status of the deceased. The funeral procession comes armed with the grave and the bodies of the dead pet. Form of burial was found at the site in Kampung Pasir Panapasyem Bamboo Supiori Eastern District, is a type of burial in the cave / recess in the form of burial types of primary (direct) without a container.

Abstract

The trading activity in Indonesia, particularly in ancient Papua has depicted that the medium of exchange become an important thing in transaction activity. It can be inferred that the trading activity in the past was also done by the tribes who lived in the mid-mountain like Ngalum community. The medium of exchange that they used was siwol/seashell. The use of siwol, as a medium of exchange, nowadays has changed for it has been influenced by official exchange medium (rupiah). Thus this currency has become the official exchange medium for Ngalum Community.

Abstract

The existence of natural caves and niches wild in Biak and interesting enough, one of which is on the site Cave Yenukem, Makmakerbo village. On the site is found in the form of rock art paintings karwar on boulders. Karwar rock art painting is a relic of prehistoric ancestors, who came from the monumental character of the neolithic culture. Regarding the remains of rock art paintings karwar mystery writer tries to analyze the function, and symbols that can be known and studied by the younger generation, which contained educative function containing moral education for human life. The method of data collection is done with literature, field surveys, and analysis using Ethnoarchaeology approach. Painting sculpture karwar a relic of prehistoric ancestors. Karwar so basic concepts of trust in the Biak past so they created a form of sculpture called amflanir / karwar to commemorate those who died.ABSTRAKKeberadaan gua-gua alam maupun ceruk-ceruk alam di wilayah Biak cukup banyak dan menarik, salah satunya adalah di situs Gua Yenukem Desa Makmakerbo. Di situs tersebut ditemukan berupa lukisan seni cadas karwar pada bongkahan batu. Lukisan seni cadas karwar merupakan peninggalan dari nenek moyang dari jaman prasejarah, yang bercorak monumental berasal dari kebudayaan neolitik. Mengenai tinggalan seni cadas lukisan karwar penulis mencoba mengupas misteri akan fungsi, dan simbol sehingga dapat di ketahui dan dipelajari oleh generasi muda, yang termuat fungsi edukatif yang berisikan pendidikan moral bagi kehidupan manusia. Metode pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi pustaka, survei lapangan, dan analisis menggunakan pendekatan etnoarkeologi. Lukisan patung karwar merupakan peninggalan dari nenek moyang dari jaman prasejarah. Konsep kepercayaan karwar begitu mendasar pada orang Biak masa lampau sehingga mereka menciptakan suatu bentuk patung yang di sebut amflanir/ karwar untuk memperingati orang yang meninggal.

Abstract

Studies on the site of the fort in West Papua has never been done. This paper aims to be able to know forts in West Papua, the importance and function of the fortress. The method used in this research is the field surveys, interviews and a literature review. Archaeological research find Yenbekaki fort, Usaha Jaya fort, Wayom fort, Claudia sacred fort, and Babo fort. Construction of the fort was based on the defense function and has values of local wisdom is with wear resources adapted to the local environment and the local topography.AbstrakKajian tentang situs benteng di Papua Barat belum pernah dilakukan. Tulisan ini bertujuan dapat mengetahui benteng-benteng yang ada di Papua Barat, nilai penting dan fungsi benteng tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam peneiitian ini adalah survei lapangan, wawancara dan kajian pustaka. Peneiitian benteng yang dilakukan di Papua Barat menemukan benteng Yenbekaki, benteng Usaha Jaya, benteng Wayom, benteng keramat Claudia, dan benteng Babo. Pembangunan benteng didasarkan pada fungsi pertahanan serta memiliki nilai kearifan lokal yaitu dengan memanfaaatkan sumberdaya iingkungan setempat dan disesuaikan dengan topografi setempat.

Abstract

Burial conducted Ngalum tribe in earlier times, was the body buried in a hollowed out tree, and burial in caves or large gravel pit. archaeological explorations in the Star Mountains District found two caves in Oksibil District are: Cave Mendalbuk in Kampung Kabiding which functioned as a burial cave, and 1 piece of a niche in the alcove Angsamok Serambakon District Villages Wambakon which functioned as a burial niche.

Abstract

The knowledge of making pottery in Abar Village has been around since time immemorial. Until now Abar pottery development has undergone many changes. Artisan pottery in Abar Village is determined to continue to improve the quality of production in order to compete in the market. Based on this the authors feel interested to examine more about the development of pottery tradition in Abar Village. The purpose of this research is to know the development of shape, type, function and meaning of pottery Abar. The research method is qualitative, while for the strategy in the data collection phase is literature study, observation and interview. The results: found types of pottery Abar is ebe hele (crock), sempe (belanga) and kenda / plate, and pottery that has undergone changes namely: flower pots, wall hangings, drums, table chairs, stoves. Abar pottery has three functions: function as a kitchen tool, social function and religious function.  ABSTRAKPengetahuan pembuatan gerabah di Kampung Abar sudah ada sejak dahulu kala. Hingga saat ini perkembangan gerabah Abar sudah mengalami banyak perubahan. Pengrajin gerabah di Kampung Abar bertekad untuk terus meningkatkan kualitas produksi agar mampu bersaing di pasaran. Berdasarkan hal tersebut penulis merasa tertarik untuk mengkaji lebih jauh mengenai perkembangan tradisi gerabah di Kampung Abar. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui perkembangan bentuk, jenis, fungsi dan makna gerabah Abar. Metode penelitian bersifat kualitatif, sedangkan untuk strategi dalam tahap pengumpulan data adalah studi pustaka, observasi dan wawancara. Adapun hasil: ditemukan jenis-jenis gerabah Abar berupa ebe hele (tempayan), sempe (belanga) dan kenda/ piring, serta gerabah yang sudah mengalami perubahan yaitu: pot bunga, hiasan dinding, tifa, kursi meja, kompor. Gerabah Abar memiliki tiga fungsi yaitu: fungsi sebagai alat dapur, fungsi sosial dan fungsi religius.

Abstract

Archaeological studies, regarding the origin of the population can be observed from the material culture left behind. The discovery of archaeological data, especially prehistoric times, may provide clues to the approach or the analyst comparison with the findings of other cultural objects Similarly, with the origin of Biak. The existence of people residing on the island of Biak in Kampung Batanta Arefi, with penulusuran story myth and there is evidence that it can be concluded that the Biak people just immigrants or migration on the island.

Abstract

apua is the eastern end of Indonesia, who inhabited the coastal areas to the mountains with abundant diversity of archaeological remains, both from the Pleistocene to the Holocene. From the research that has been conducted by the Institute for Archaeology Jayapura, the cultural remains of Pleistocene danholosen in the Mountains High. These sites include the area in the district of Mount Tukum Jayawijaya. Research in the area surrounding Mount Tukum and there are a number of archaeological remains in the form of natural cave site, location of cutting pork, pork burning locations and there are a number of artifacts that human bones, handheld axe Baliem types I, II, pelandas stone materials, stone axe makers of materials quartz sand, stone and granite grindstones. Based on the survey to review the components of the environment there is still a gap which still has not found a review of biological components (ecofak) that characterizes the end of life plestosen. But characterize some of the artifacts found at the pattern of human life during the Holocene.
