Abstract

Cirebon is one of the centers of Islamic civilization in the past. This is at least evidenced by the founding of the Sultanate of Cirebon in the 15th century AD. The Sultanate of Cirebon plays a major role in spreading Islam in the western region of Java. Under the Sultanate of Cirebon Islamic traditions grow and flourish in society. Although the Sultanate of Cirebon split into two parts namely Kasepuhan Sultanate and Kanoman Sultanate, but the traditions are still preserved. Among these traditions is the tradition of Rajaban, a tradition that is held on 27 Rajab each year which aims to commemorate the events of Isra Mi’raj Prophet Muhammad SAW. Implementation of Islamic tradition in Cirebon is currently getting a pretty fierce challenge both from Islamic circles themselves, i.e. from the purification of Islam, as well as from the flow of globalization that tends to leave something that is considered ancient and traditional. This paper shows that the Rajaban tradition is still preserved by Kanoman Sultanate and Cirebon people. The procession of the Rajaban tradition itself is done with the core event of the reading of Isra Mi’raj chronicle, which is delivered in the old Cirebon language. The tradition of Rajaban can survive in the midst of various obstacles because it is still considered to have value by the community. The values include a pleasure value, vital value, spiritual value and value of holiness.

Abstract

Today's women's issues are still very important to pay attention to because women's rights have not been fully fulfilled. The marginalization of women's rights often stems from local religious and cultural beliefs. This is where the importance of the thinking of figures like Asghar Ali Engineer is reviewed in the present. This paper discusses the thoughts of Asghar Ali Engineer about liberation theology in the matter of women's rights in Islam. Asghar Ali Engineer in many of his works has offered various kinds of deconstruction of discourses. In the matter of women's rights in Islam, he presents his opinion on inheritance, wealth, testimony, the position of women in the family, polygamy and divorce which are considered as examples of inequality. With its hermeneutic interpretation, Asghar Engineering rejects the existence of a patriarchal concept that is inherent in the classical interpretation of the Quran, which is considered discriminatory against women. Then he applies the verses of the Quran into two, namely normative and contextual, with the hope that the verses of the Quran can be reinterpreted, so that it truly becomes a universal verses of “das solen” on one side and contextual verses of “das sein” on the other. Thus, the equality of men and women can be realized and gender-based justice can be manifested.

Abstract

The shahada has an important meaning for followers of the Asy-Syahadatain order because the shahada sentence is an identity that has been attached and is rooted in this tarekat and is one of the treasures of Sufism in Indonesia. For a long time, this bond has made the creed a special study and teaching for them. One of the practices that most characterize this tarekat is the teachings of the Syahadat Payung. This research focuses on the meaning of the Syahadat Payung in the teachings of the Asy-Syahadatain tarekat. The method used is qualitative by using a literature study approach and in-depth interviews with informants. The literature study itself is intended to analyze aurod texts which are the main source about the Asy-Syahadatain order or the results of previous research as material objects, then complemented by conducting in-depth interviews with figures or leaders in the tarekat as the formal object. The results of this study found that the shahadat payung is one of the teachings of the Asy-Syahadatain congregation which has the function of protecting its congregation from polytheism, distress, and other negative things. In addition, there is a difference between the shahada payung and the ordinary shahada, namely the addition of sentence readings to the shahada. If the usual shahada only contains two sentences of shahada. Meanwhile, the shahadat payung is preceded by reciting the Salawat creed and continuing to read the shahadat payung in which there is praise or tawassul to Abah Umar which contains nicknames and titles given by one of them directly to the Prophet Muhammad.

Abstract

This study explores Farid Esack's perspective on religious pluralism through the lens of Wilhelm Dilthey's hermeneutic theory, which emphasizes lived experience (Erlebnis), expression (Ausdruck), and understanding (Verstehen). Esack, a South African Muslim scholar and activist, developed his pluralistic thought in response to experiences of systemic injustice under apartheid and exposure to interfaith dynamics during his education in Pakistan. This research aims to analyze how Esack's personal experiences shaped his theological approach to pluralism and to articulate how his liberative hermeneutics of the Qur'an fosters interfaith solidarity and justice. Employing a qualitative, hermeneutic approach, the study interprets Esack's key writings in conjunction with his biographical context. The findings reveal that Esack's conception of pluralism transcends tolerance, emphasizing active recognition and cooperation across religious boundaries as a moral imperative rooted in Islamic teachings. His praxis-based hermeneutics advocate for justice, dignity, and liberation, particularly for the oppressed, offering a transformative model of interfaith engagement. This study contributes to contemporary Islamic discourse on pluralism, justice, and coexistence.

Abstract

The understanding of gender in today's media is very diverse due to misconceptions and is even often considered to be liberal. In the context of gender, the idea of liberté is understood as an unconditional freedom where individual freedom surpasses social rights and responsibilities. Thus, in this humorous era, we are allowed to identify ourselves as non-binary groups, such as transgender or homosexual individuals. Essentially, the purpose of gender construction is an effort to divide labor, which concerns the roles and responsibilities between men and women to work together in forming an ideal family unit. Instinctively, we are aware that there are general, widespread differences between men and women. Both are distinct entities or opposites, yet they create harmony. This is because the family is a moral institution, both in terms of instilling and developing moral values. The method used in this journal writing is a digital library study, where the process involves referencing articles and digital media content related to the discussed issue.
