Abstract

The focus of this teaching and learning activity is to improve students' reading comprehension through English short stories in eleventh grade students of SMAS NU Centini Laren Lamongan. Utilizing the existence of English short stories as a medium is expected to make a positive contribution to students through their characteristics that make readers feel happy. This research is a Classroom Action Research which is carried out by following John Elliot's model research procedures which include planning, action, observation, reflection or evaluation. The research was carried out in the eleventh class of SMAS NU Centini Laren Lamongan for the academic year 2019-2020 even semester totaling 50 students. The results showed that before being given learning using short story books in English, the average value of reading comprehension was 56 (8%) in the very low category. After learning reading comprehension was carried out using English short story book media in the first cycle the average value of students 'reading comprehension increased to 67 (38%), still in the moderate category, and learning was carried out in the second cycle the students' reading comprehension ability increased the average score. and a percentage of 77 (86%) with a very high category. By using this method, there was a fairly good increase for the students of SMAS NU Centini Laren Lamongan. In addition, other results obtained were students easier to absorb and understand English learning material and this activity was also the starting point for other activities. Keywords:  Reading Comprehension, Short Story, CAR

Abstract

This classroom action research was conducted at SMP Diniyah Al-Falahiyah Turi Lamongan for three months. This study aims to increase students' understanding of learning tenses using cooperative learning type Number Head Together (NHT) with question card media. The participants of this research were eighth grades students with a total of 20 students. The results of this study indicated that the implementation of Number Head Together (NHT) could increase students' understanding in learning tenses. The data obtained indicated that the set of learning targets have been achieved. Beginning from preliminary test, the students passed grades are 30%. Farther in cycle 1, the result increase to 55%. While in cycle 2, it could be said that the research target has been exceeded although there were still 15% students did not pass grades. Finally, in final test, it could be said that almost all the students passed grades with the percentage of 80%. Nevertheless, this research's target has been exceeded that 80% of students pass with an average value <70 with a minimum passing criterion of 67

Abstract

 The purpose of this study was to determine whether the use of mind maps can improve students' oral skills and to determine the progress of students using mind maps in daily activities. The sample is SMAU BPPT AL FATTAH Siman. To obtain data, researchers conducted pre-experimental research. Researchers conducted pre-test and post-test. Based on the data obtained using r-count and r-table, the number of students is 17, the significance level = 0.05, indicating that the score obtained from the r-table is 0.482, and the r-count is 0.896, so that the r-count is more greater than r-table 0.896 > 0.489, this study is accepted. The results before and after show that mind maps are indeed effective in improving students' abilities, mind maps make students speak English better.
