Abstract

On April 22nd, 2016, Indonesia signed the Paris Agreement, which goal is that the world will enter the net-zero emission phase in 2060. To support that, it is better to increase the solar rooftop capacity have been installed. In this study, there are some variations, such as the capacity of solar rooftops based on load profile and installed power (75%, 90%, and 100%), variation of solar module placement, and variation of solar module types. The result shows that to fulfill the load needs, it will need 40 kW of inverter capacity and 49.5 kWp of PV capacity with a total module of 113 pcs. Based on the solar module type simulations result, the 440 Wp B – brand has the highest performance result among the others. Uprating solar rooftop capacity will cost around Rp.1,138,529,870 for the investment, and the payback period is around 18 years. This study finds that uprating the capacity of rooftop solar panel can reduce electricity tariffs and increase energy production. Moreover, the results of the economic analysis revealed that the initial cost, interest rate, and electricity price will play crucial roles in determining whether to launch a project or not.

Abstract

The pandemic has changed the usage pattern of electrical appliances in buildings. This new pattern can create new problems in terms of power quality and thus affect the electrical system’s reliability. The purpose of this study is to determine the power quality of the Dean Office Building, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Indonesia, and propose alternative solutions to its problems. To determine the quality of electric power, the related parameters such as voltage, current, power factor, and harmonics are measured first. The measurement results are compared with existing standards. If these standards cannot be met, damage to electrical equipment can occur. Out of eight parameters, three did not meet the criteria. First, overvoltage on average voltage with the range of 231.5-232.8 V. Second, IHDi nominal on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 15th harmonics for Thursday, April 7, 2022 on 06:11 with the value of 70.3%, 55.34%, 27.1%, and 8.07%. And third, the minimum power factor for the T phase with the value of 0.7219 is still less than 0.85. Possible solutions include checking and changing the supply transformer tap-changer, making an energy monitoring system and wiring diagram for understanding the load profile of the building, and using a single-tuned filter for harmonic currents.

Abstract

The development of renewable energy is carried out to reduce the use of fossil energy, which is decreasing in existence, increasing in price, and having a very long recovery cycle. One of the uses of technology to support renewable energy development is a synchronous machine that can be used to utilize wind and water energy. One type of synchronous machine that is widely used today is the radial flux machine. However, there is a saturation point in their development. Axial flux machines also called disc type machines, are an alternative to radial flux machines due to their compact shape and high-power density. Axial flux machines can be operated as small to medium-scale power plants. Besides that, they are ideal for low-speed applications. An axial flux permanent magnet (AFPM) generator is designed and built in this study. This generator design consists of a dual rotor with twelve permanent magnets and a single stator with nine coils. The primary material used for the stator and rotor is acrylic, while the permanent magnet uses neodymium N52. It is necessary to know the stator and rotor parameters such as distribution factor (kd), pitch factor (kp), and winding factor (kw) for designing the AFMP generator. The AFPM generator is designed to produce a phase voltage of 4.03 V at a nominal speed of 500 r/min. Based on the measurement results, it was found that the phase voltages at a rotating speed of 500 r/min for each phase are VR = 2.94 V, VS = 2.97 V, and VT = 2.95 V. There are differences in the test results and the design. It can be caused by design simplicity that does not consider magnetic saturation and internal reactance, which cannot be ignored but is not included in the calculation.
