Abstract

Abstract

Background: Riset Kesehatan Dasar (Riskesdas) shows that the highest rate of dental caries in children occurs in the 5–9 y.o group (92.6%). Dental caries should be prevented early by reducing the factors that cause caries. The def-t/DMF-t caries index can be used to assess the severity of dental caries, while the caries risk assessment can be used to study the various variables that cause dental caries. Objectives: To analyze the most dominant risk factors for dental caries with the highest def-T/DMF-T values in students in grades 1-6 at SDN Cenlecen 1 Pakong Pamekasan. Methods: This study is analytical and observational with a Cross-sectional method approach. The data analysis used the Chi-square test to examine the relationship between the variables. Results: This study shows that the most significant correlation value for high deft-t/DMF-T is eating and drinking sweet foods (p-value, 0.027), followed by having a mother who had dental caries experience, receiving dental care, having teeth lost as a result of caries, having visible plaque, and exposed root surfaces. Conclusion: The most dominant risk factor for dental caries for high def-T/DMF-T rates at SDN Cenlecen 1 Pakong Pamekasan is eating and drinking sweet foods.

Abstract

Background: This community service activity was carried out in order to support the 2023 National Dental Health Month). This program includes three main activities, namely dental and oral health education, dental examinations, and provision of anti-fluoride tablets (TAF) as a preventive measure for dental caries. Objective: Counseling is carried out to increase students' knowledge and awareness of the importance of maintaining dental and oral health, including education on correct tooth brushing techniques and healthy eating patterns. Dental examinations and provision of TAF aim to detect dental and oral problems early on and as a preventive effort to strengthen teeth and prevent caries. This activity involved students from Elementary Schools in the Kediri City area. Method: Counseling is carried out using posters and tooth models, then participants are invited to brush their teeth together using the techniques that have been taught, then participants' teeth are examined and TAF is applied at the RSGM IIK Bhakti Wiyata. Results: shows an increase in students' understanding of dental and oral health, there are dental problems in most participants, and high enthusiasm for prevention using TAF. This program is expected to be a sustainable model to support promotive and preventive efforts of dental health in school-age children.

Abstract

Background: Dental caries is a problem in the field of oral health that is widely suffered by the Indonesian people, especially in school-age children, namely 6-9 years. Dental caries in normal children aged 6-9 years reaches 92.6%, while in children with special needs it reaches 24%, which is obtained from the calculation of the def-t index (decayed exfoliation filling) to determine the number of deciduous teeth that have caries. Children with special needs, especially deaf and intellectual disability children are more susceptible to caries because they have limitations in themselves and need special attention regarding how they maintain their oral health. Purposive: This study aims to determine the comparison of def-t index in children with disabilities (deaf and intellectual disability) aged 6-9 years in SLB Kediri City. Methods: The type of research used is analytical observational with a cross sectional approach and sampling in this study by Total Sampling, namely sampling using the entire population in implementation of study according to the inclusion criteria. The samples in this study were 10 deaf children and 10 children with intellectual disability. Results: The results of the Mann-Whitney hypothesis test revealed a comparison related to the def-t index in deaf and retarded children aged 6-9 years. Statistical analysis using Mann-Whitney test obtained a significance value (p<0.05). Conclusion: There is a comparison of def-t index in children with special needs, especially deaf children and children with dementia aged 6-9 years in SLB Kediri City. Abstract

Background: The quality of dental care is determined not only by technical competence but also by dentists’ personal characteristics that shape communication, patient safety, and trust. Objective: To analyze the association between dentists’ personal characteristics and patient satisfaction at the Dental and Oral Hospital of Institut Ilmu Kesehatan Bhakti Wiyata, Kediri. Method: This analytical cross-sectional study was conducted from February to March 2025. Ninety-five patients aged at least 17 years who had received care from general or specialist dentists were selected using random sampling. Dentists’ personal characteristics were assessed using 15 items covering openness to criticism, stress management, self-control, self-confidence, and psychological awareness. Patient satisfaction was measured using a Likert scale. As both variables were non-normally distributed, Spearman correlation was applied.Result: The mean personal-characteristics score was 70.03±4.05 (range 57-75), and mean patient satisfaction was 4.39±0.51. Fifty-six patients (58.9%) were satisfied, 38 (40.0%) were very satisfied, and one (1.1%) was neutral. Dentists’ personal characteristics were positively correlated with patient satisfaction (rₛ=0.333; p=0.001).Conclusion: Dentists’ personal characteristics were positively associated with patient satisfaction, with a weak-to-moderate correlation. Communication, receptiveness to feedback, stress management, and empathy should be incorporated into service-quality improvement.

Abstract

Introduction: In field of Pediatric Medicine, Children with Special Needs are children who experience difficulties in behavior, physical abilities, or intellectual capabilities. Deaf  children need appropriate language to communicate so they can convey and understand messages in daily life. Use phantom teeth media and animated sign language videos for deaf children is a consistent method for implementing education for hearing-impaired children. Methods: This research is a quasi-experimental study with pre and post-test group. The sample in this study consisted of 24 deaf students at SLB-B Pertiwi Ponorogo, divided into 2 groups, each consisting of 12 students. The debris index score was examined using the debris index. Results: The debris index results after education showed that the dental phantom media was more effective compared to the animated video, with 11 deaf children in the dental phantom group reaching the good debris index category, while only 5 children in the animated video group did. Based on the difference in pre-test and post-test scores, which is 1.99 for the phantom tooth group and 1.29 for the animation video group. Conclusion: The dental phantom media is more effective than the animated video in educating tooth brushing for deaf children, as evidenced by the greater reduction in the debris index using the dental phantom media.
