Abstract

This study entitled An Analysis of Types of Imperative Sentence Found in Call of Duty Modern Warfare Campaign. This research aims to find out the types of imperative sentence Call of Duty Modern Warfare Campaign. The theory used in this research is theory proposed by Quirk et. al. (1985) in their book entitled A Comprehensive of English Language about types of imperative sentence which consist five types of imperative sentence in this research, there are Imperative without subject, imperative with subject, imperative with let, Negative imperative and imperative with do and to determine the constituent structure by using tree diagram based on the theory proposed by Brown and Miller (1991). The data were collected through documentation method by playing and record the game, note taking and classifying the data based on imperative sentence. The analysis of the data was conducted qualitative method and presented decrepitly. The method that applied in presenting the result of the analysis were used formal and informal method. Abstract

This study is concerned with finding the types of grammatical cohesion used in “The Yak” Magazine and the function of grammatical cohesion used in “The Yak” Magazine. This study applied the theory from Halliday and Hasan (1976) to find out the types of grammatical cohesion. and theory context of situation from Halliday and Hasan (1989) to investigate the function of grammatical cohesion and supported theory from Renkema (2018). The data were collected by observation method and analyzed by descriptive qualitative method. This finding is presented in a formal and informal ways. The finding shows that there are two types of grammatical cohesion used in “The Yak” Magazine They are reference and conjunction. They are two types of reference found in “The Yak” Magazine such as personal reference and demonstrative reference. For conjunction, they are four types of a conjunction such as; additive conjunction, adversative conjunction, temporal conjunction, and causal conjunction. Additive conjunction is the types of grammatical cohesion which is the most use within the articles with the number of occurrences are 137 items (51 %), followed by personal reference 76 items (28 %), demonstrative reference 25 items (9 %), causal conjunction 17 items (6%), adversative conjunction 7 items (3%), and the last temporal conjunction 7 items (3%).

Abstract

AbstractThere are many patterns used in song lyrics. This patterns support each other to make the song deeply meaningful when the listener listen the song. This study is about the basic sentence of S-V-C pattern found in Adele Album Song Lyrics especially in 21st Album. It aims to find out the types of basic sentence patterns and the most occurring type of basic sentence pattern which found in this song lyrics. Based on the theory from Quirk et al (1973) and supported with the theory from Brown and Miller (1991). The study found that subject and verb, subject verb and complement, subject verb and adverbial, subject verb and object, subject verb object and complement, subject verb object and adverbial, and subject verb object and object found in this song lyrics. The result of this study are total 63 lyrics found as the data. And it shows that found 9 basic sentence (14%) of S-V pattern, 16 basic sentence (25%) of S-V-C pattern, 13 basic sentence (21%) of S-V-A pattern, 13 basic sentence (21%) of S-V-O pattern, 4 basic sentence (6%) of S-V-O-C pattern, 7 basic sentence (11%) of S-V-O-A pattern, 1 basic sentence (2%) of S-V-O-O pattern.
