Abstract

In the era of globalization, English language proficiency has become an essential skill, especially for village officials and village office staff who frequently interact with outsiders, including foreign tourists. Pererenan Village, located on the main tourism route in Bali, faces challenges in improving the international communication capacity of its village officials. To overcome this obstacle, an English language training program was conducted as part of the community service activities. The program included theoretical learning, group discussions, and hands-on practice in real situations, aiming to improve basic communication competencies in English. The results of this activity showed a significant improvement in the participants' English language skills, which improved the quality of public services in the village and increased the competitiveness of Pererenan Village as a tourist destination. This community service not only contributes to the development of human resources but also strengthens the relationship between the university and the local community and makes a tangible contribution to facing the challenges of globalization and advancing Pererenan Village on the international stage.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyzing illocutionary acts found in Fast X movie. This study entitled "Representative speech Acts found in the main character in Fast X Movie" discusses speech analysis based on the concept of speech acts of the main character. Each utterance shows three types of speech acts namely locutionary, illocutionary and perlocutionary. However, this study only focuses on the discussion of illocutionary speech acts because the meaning and specific purpose of a person's utterance are described in detail, so that the meaning of an utterance can be understood better in certain social interactions. The main theory used in analysing illocutionary speech acts in this study is the theory of Yule (1996) and supported by the theory of Leech (1983). Fast X movie was chosen as the data source in this study because of the many illocutionary speech acts spoken by the main actors of the movie. The steps of data collection include observing the movie, making notes on illocutionary speech acts, and grouping the data into several subcategories. This analysis shows that Dom significantly utilizes assertionswith 64 found. This is various communicative functions as an emphasis on his strategic plan, as well as to build and instill confidence in other characters.

Abstract

This paper describes the result of student self-reflection on their writing ability and the application of the process writing approach conducted in their academic writing class. The data was collected through a self-reflection written by the participants. The students were guided to reflect on their learning experience in two aspects: their views on their writing ability and the application of the process writing approach in the classroom. Forty-four students of the English literature program from the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Mahasaraswati Denpasar University, were chosen as the participants for this study through a purposive sampling method. This method was ideal because these students have undergone similar learning experiences within the same context, which provided rich data for the study. The result of their self-reflection was analyzed using a qualitative approach. The findings indicate that more than half of the participants perceived their writing ability as lacking. Less than 10% of the participants were confident in their writing ability, and the rest saw improvement in their ability but required further practice and guidance. In terms of the application of process writing, the majority of participants agreed that it had a positive impact on their writing process.
