Abstract

The objectives of this study are to: 1) ascertain the level of YouTube Kids viewing in the Karawang Barat district; 2) ascertain the evolution of the speech abilities of children aged 5 to 6; and 3) ascertain the impact of YouTube Kids viewing intensity on the speaking abilities of children aged 5 to 6 in the Karawang Barat districts. Ex Post Facto was the qualitative method employed in the study, and 237 respondents were chosen by random sample procedures. We use an online tool to gather data. Analysis of research data: SPSS Version 23.0 for Windows is used in this study to do basic linear regression analysis. Based on the study's findings, it was determined that children in the Karawang Barat district watch YouTube Kids at a medium intensity, scoring a 57% presentation score, and that their speaking abilities develop at a preset rate of 59.9%, which is in line with expectations. A linear regression test yields a significance result (Sig) of 0.0010.05, indicating a significant relationship (R square score of 4.2% ) between the amount of time children aged 5–6 watch YouTube Kids (X) and their capacity to speak.

Abstract

Early reading skills are basic skills that are important for early childhood as a foundation for language development and readiness to enter the next level of education. However, the reality is that there are still many children aged 4-5 years who have difficulty recognizing letters, distinguishing letter shapes, and stringing letters into simple syllables and words. This research aims to improve the initial reading ability of children aged 4–5 years through the use of letter puzzle media. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (PTK) with the Kemmis and McTaggart models which are carried out in two cycles. The subjects of the study were 10 children of group A at PAUD (SPS) Miftahusshibyan Sukahaji. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study show that the use of letter puzzle media can improve children's initial reading skills, both in recognizing letters, distinguishing letters, reading syllables, and reading simple words. Thus, the letter puzzle media is effectively used to improve early reading skills in early childhood. This is evidenced by the data obtained during the pre-action, the percentage reaches %, then increases by % in cycle I to % and increases again by % in cycle II to %. This data shows that puzzle media can improve initial reading ability.
