Abstract

ANALYSIS OF FARMER'S PERCEPTIONS OF EXTENSION COMPETENCY IN BEEF CATTLE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT IN BACAN DISTRICT, MIDDLE EAST This research was carried out in the Middle East Bacan District, Bibinoi Village, South Halmahera Regency in August 2019. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of farmers' responses to the competence of extension workers in outreach activities in beef cattle farming. Agricultural extension workers are people who play a role in empowering farmers as the main actors in agricultural development in general so that they are able to develop businesses according to their local capabilities and resources.The type of research used is a qualitative descriptive method with an approach to extension activities carried out to farmers in Bacan Timur Tengah District, South Halmahera Regency with a concentration on Bibinoi Village because this village has farmers who raise cattle. Selection of respondents by taking 30 breeders, variable measurement was carried out by applying a Likert scale whose measurements were scored on each perception. The results showed that the overall perception value of beef cattle breeders on the competence of extension workers in Bibinoi village, Bacan Timur Tengah District, South Halmahera Regency, the most prominent was professional competence and social competence with a percentage of 100%. Overall, the perceptions of beef cattle breeders on the competence of extension workers were seen from the personality competency, 80% rated very like and 13.33% rated like mean while, 6.67% said they didn't like it. Competence, 93.33% rated very like and 6.67% rated like. Professional competence and social competence 100% of breeders rated very like it. Farmers 'perceptions of extension agents' competency showed the results were mostly very like 100% and a small proportion did not like 6.67% technology.

Abstract

ABSTRACT THE ROLE OF HOUSEHOLD FARMER GROUP ON DEVELOPMENT OF DUCK FARMING SYSTEM IN WEST TONDANO DISTRICT OF MINAHASA REGENCY. Development of animal husbandry was generally intended to improve the human welfare of rural community, mainly increasing the productivity their animal farming system. This effort was mainly done to fulfil the nutritional needs of the communities in rural areas. The animal farming system was changed from the traditional way of animal maintenance into the intensive maintenance, requiring better understanding and knowledge of raising ducks. This research was carried out at the village of Tuutu, West Tondano district of Minahasa regency involving duck household farmer group from January 10, 2017 – 10 April 2017. This research was applied using qualitative research. Data were collected intentionally based on purposive Sampling method, collected from primary and secondary sources of data. Primary data were obtained through direct observation held by interviews with the respondents of duck household farmers applying questions that have been prepared and drawn up in accordance with the research objectives. Secondary data were obtained from existing records in the Office of the head of the local Office and BP3K related with this study. Results of the study showed that all duck household farmer groups at the village of Tuutu, West Tondano district of Minahasa Regency were playing role in development of duck household farming system in making decision, involving the group. These groups were including four groups of Masawa-Sawangan, Tougela, Esa Toroan Waya and Toubeke.Key word: Household farming group, duck farming system development, West Tondano district

Abstract

ABSTRACT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF THE FIELD FARM EDUCATOR IN PINELENG DISTRICT PINELENG OF MINAHASA REGENCY. The purpose of this study was to determine the performance of field farm educator and to know the success of the field farm educator at Pineleng district of Minahasa regency. Respondents were applied by survey method at 1 supervisor, 4 field farm educators and 30 selected  farmers as targets of counseling. Data were collected by interview, observation and documentation. Sources of data were including primary data in the form of extension internal program, age, education, experience, and the number of dependent family. External extension factors were involving  infrastruc-ture, government policies, the intensity of illumination, and the distance of field farm educator residence. The second primary data were taken regarding the indicators of appraisal extension educator office. Secondary data were obtained from agencies associated with this study, such as the BP3K office of the Pineleng district and Pineleng district office. Data analysis was using qualitative deskriprif. The analysis showed that the internal and external factors affecting one to each other of the performance of the field farm extension of educators. Extension performance appraisal done by superiors to field farm educator assessment itself indicated good category. This good category indicated that from nine assessment indicators, seven of them were done by field farm educators. Field farm educators were not optimal in doing extension because the compiled program did not reach the target. In conclusion internal and external factors influencing the extension performance of field farm educators, in the judgment of superiors are in accordance with the duties and functions of each field farm educator. On the basis of this study, the result of the extension was not optimal because more farmers did not participate and achieve in extension and the planned program objectives of the field farm educators.
