Abstract

Abstract

Utilization of after the coal mine pool for the cultivation need to know the quality,  so it can be known whether the appropriate media for fish life. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics of water quality of coal post-mining pool used for fish cultivation. The sampling method was in situ and ex situ, and then analyzed in the laboratory. The water were analyzed were temperature, pH, O2, NH3-N, NO3, NO2-N, PO4, -P, and H2S. Analysis of water quality compared to the quality of standard regulation of Province of Kalimantan Timur No. 02 / 2011 on Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control. The results of the analysis showed that pH, NH3 and H2S exceed the quality standards.

Abstract

Coal post-mining pond has been used for fish cultivation. The success of cultivation in these locations was highly dependent on environmental conditions. The environment as a place for cultivation needs attention for maximum results. One factor that needs to be attention for fish cultivation in post-mining pond is plankton, which acts as an indicator of the quality of waters. Based on identification and calculation was made known that the number of species, abundance, diversity index and uniformity index value of plankton in the post-mining pond was low enough indicated that the water conditions was infertile due to lack of nutrients content, so little of plankton species which were able to live and multiply well.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the levels of nitrogen compounds in the Mahakam river at high and low tide, and to compare it with the quality standard East Kalimantan Timur Regulation Number 02 0f 2011 concerning Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control. The data obtained in the field and the results of the analysis in the laboratory are displayed in the form of tables and graphs. The data is presented based on a descriptive picture to get conclusions from the results of the study, with an independent sample t-test and compared the average between the two cases. The levels of Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate at high tide were significantly lower than at low tide. lower than at low tide. Ammonia levels at high tide ranged from 0.382- 0.424 mg/L, and have exceeded the quality standard threshold of regional Regulation of East Kalimantan Province Number 02 of 2011. Nitrite levels at high tide range from 0.027- 0.068 mg/L and ar low tide 0.04 - 0.068 mg/L, and still meet the quality standards of East Kalimantan Province Regulation Number 02 0f 2011.Nitrate levels at high tide range from 0.89 – 1.20 mg/L and at low tide 1.00 – 1.20 mg/L, which still meets the quality standards of East Kalimantan Province Regualation No. 01 of 2011. The levels of Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate at high and low tide were not significantly different.

Abstract

Heavy metals are compounds that can affect the quality of a waters. Various kinds and types of heavy metals that enter and settle in sediments can cause diversity to decrease to the extinction of organisms in the waters. This study was aimed to determine the content of Cd, Pb, and Cu accumulated in water, substrate, and gastropods obtained from Kersik Village, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. Samples of water, substrate, and gastropods were collected from 4 stations with 3 repetitions. Water samples, substrates, and gastropods were analyzed using AAS. Concentration ranges of Cd, Pb, and Cu in water were 0.003 - 0.011 mg/L; 0.161 - 0.731 mg/L; and 0.007 - 0.009 mg/L, respectively. The concentration ranges of Cd, Pb, and Cu on the substrate were 0.021 - 0.182 mg/kg; 19.5 - 31.12 mg/kg; and 14.29 - 15.47 mg/kg, respectively. In gastropods, the range of Cd concentrations was 0.509 - 0.675 mg/kg, while for Pb and Cu were 15.96 - 21.52 mg/kg and 57.78 - 92.4 mg/kg, respectively. The concentration of Pb in gastropods at all stations has exceeded the quality standard based on SNI-7387-2009, while the concentration of Cu in gastropods at all stations has also exceeded the quality standard based on BPOM No.03725/B/SK/89. Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) of organisms to sediment (BCFo-s), shows the ability to accumulate Cu in Gastropods which is higher than Cd and Pb. Bioconcentration Factor (BCF) analysis of organisms to water (BCFo-w), showed that the accumulation of Cd, Pb, and Cu were in the low, medium, to high categories. The average comparison of concentrations of the three heavy metals at each observation station was not significantly different (sig. > 0.05).

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to determine the heavy metals contents (Cd, Pb, Cu and Zn) in the body of some freshwater fish and to examine the histopathological changes of some organs.  The fish were obtained from Payau River located in Anggana, Kutai Kartanegara District, East Kalimantan, Indonesia.  There were four (4) species examined namely: Glass Fish (Chanda sp), Croaker (Micropogenias undulatus), Lais (Kryptopterus cryptopterus), and spotted catfish (Arius maculatus).  Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Copper (Cu), and Zinc (Zn) were being analysed in the gills, livers, and the muscles of the fish.  The results showed that Pb and Cd were still low and fulfilled the the quality standard based on Indonesian National Standards Agency (INSA, 2009) and Directorate of Drug and Food Control No. 03725/B/SK/VII/89.  Cadmium concentration in the fish organ was < 0.003 mg/kg (Max. limit of Quality standard is 0.1 mg/kg) and Pb concentration was <0.002 mg/kg (Quality standard is 0.3 mg/kg).  Yet, Cu and Zn concentrations were exceeded the Quality standard as the levels were 2.63-2.93 mg/kg and 60.23 -65.55 mg/kg., respectively.  Based on Histopathological analysis of the gills, livers and muscles, the fish experienced edema, hyperplasia, vacuolar degenerative, necrosis and hemorrhagic ..

Abstract

The discharge of pollutants which is derived from industrial waste, such as oil and gas, palm oil, coal mining, and domestic activities,  into the Mahakam river basin may contribute to the declining of water quaity of Mahakam river basin including Lake Jempang in West Kutai Regency. The aim of this study was to identify the condition of plankton and benthos in Lake Jempang, The study was conducted through survey, observation, and measurement of plankton and benthos communities. The results showed that the abundance, diversity, equitability and the dominance indexes of plankton and benthos are still relatively moderate. Â
