Abstract

ARDIYANI, M. 2015. - A new species of Zingiber (Zingiberaceae) from Enggano Island, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 14 (2): 307 - 310. - A species of Zingiber Miller (Zingiberaceae), Z. engganoensis Ardiyani, from Enggano Island, Indonesia is described. The species is only known from its type locality. It is similar to Z. spectabile Griff. but with some morphological differences. Three-locus DNA barcodes (rbcL, matK and ITS2) of the new species were generated for its identification purposes

Abstract

ARDI, W. H. & ARDIYANI, M. 2015. Two new species of Alpinia (Zingiberaceae) from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 14(2): 311 - 316. - Two new species of Alpinia section Alpinia subsection Cenolophon, Alpinia macrocrista Ardiyani & Ardi, and Alpinia pusilla Ardi & Ardiyani, from Sulawesi, Indonesia, are described. Colour plates are provided, and four-locus DNA barcodes have been generated for the purpose of identification. Tabulated key to species of Alpinia subsection Cenolophon in Sulawesi is also presented.

Abstract

Abstract

Kecondang or Taka (Tacca leontopetaloides), a member of Taccaceae, is one the carbohydrate alternatives to rice which can be developed in coastal area. With the global warming, the sea level has increased and small islands are more isolated. The people who lives in these islands should depend on their bioresources.As Taka inhabits coastal area, the development of this plant becomes critical.A total of 65 accessions of Taka from 9 provenances in Indonesia (Sukabumi, Madura, Kp.Siung (Yogyakarta), Gn. Kidung (Yogyakarta), and the small islands in Karimun Jawa namely Nyamuk, Katang, Cendekia, Kumbang, Seruni islands) were characterized using six ISSR markers [GSGG (TG5)T; CCAG(TGG)3TG; GGAG(TGG)3TG; BDBT(TCC4); (AC)8C; (AG)8G]. The scoring of the fragments resulted in 55 (69.6%) polymorphic bands. The size of the bands varied from 150bp to 1,6kb. The 65 accessions of Taka made several clusters according to their provenances. The range of individual genetic dissimilarity was from 0.012 to 0.186. The results showed that amongst nine population studied, Gn. Kidul, Yogyakarta population has the highest level of genetic variation with mean values of Na = 1.3544±0.4814, Ne =1.1784±0.3025, PLP = 35.44% and He = 0.1094±0.1681. Whereas, P. Nyamuk, Kep. Karimun Jawa population has the lowest level of genetic variation with mean values of Na = 1.0759±0.2666, Ne = 1.0523±0.2163, PLP = 7.59% and He = 0.0275±0.1097.

Abstract

ARDIYANI, M. & POULSEN, A. D. 2019.  An update of the genus Etlingera (Zingiberaceae) in Sulawesi including the description of a new species. Reinwardtia 18(1): 49?60. ? A new species, Etlingera mamasarum A.D.Poulsen & Ardiyani was discovered in Gunung Gandangdewata National Park, West Sulawesi. It is similar to Etlingera flexuosa A.D.Poulsen but differs in having flowers which are shorter than the bracts. It is described, illustrated and DNA barcoded. Three additional species (Etlingera cylindrica A.D.Poulsen, E. grallata A.D.Poulsen, E. spinulosa A. D.Poulsen) were documented in this national park and represent new records for West Sulawesi Province. We also update information on the morphology of E. calobates A.D.Poulsen, correct an error in the typification of Alpinia chrysogynia (K.Schum.) K.Schum. and discuss the distribution of the Achasma Group of Etlingera east of Wallace?s Line.

Abstract

Macaranga Thou. (Euphorbiaceae) is the largest genus which is known as a pioneer on disturbed land due to mining, agriculture, and settlements. The study aims to record diversity and analyze Macaranga relationships on Bangka Island and compare them with those in the Sundaland region. It was carried out in July – Desember 2018 in four habitat types: hills, lowland forest, peat swamp forest, and open land, with each in five different villages. Specimens were identified with the collections of Herbarium Bangka Belitungense and Herbarium Bogoriense. Leaf samples for molecular tests used the teabag method, DNA analysis with a combination of primers ITS4 and ITS5, and analysis using Maximum Likelihood. The five species documented are M. bancana, M. gigantea, M. javanica, M. pruinosa, and M. trichocarpa. All species grow mostly in lowland forests and hill forests, M. pruinosa is only found in peat swamp forests. M. bancana and M. pruinosa are closely related to Macaranga in the Malay Peninsula, M. trichocarpa is close to the species in Borneo, while M. javanica is not known to be related to either the Malay Peninsula or Borneo because there are no comparable sequences. M. gigantea does not show strong genetic differences from the Malay Peninsula or Borneo.
