Abstract

VELDKAMP, J. F. & SULISTYANINGSIH, L. D. 2015. Nomenclature and typification of Musa salaccensis Zoll. ex Kurz (Musaceae). Reinwardtia 14(2): 299 - 302. - A nomenclatural history is given for Musa salaccensis (Musaceae) from Java and Sumatra, Indonesia. Previous typifications are rejected and a lectotype is designated here from original material.

Abstract

SULISTYANINGSIH, L. D. 2016. Newly described and newly recorded of infraspecific taxa of Musa borneensis Becc. (Musaceae) from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 16 (1): 19 - 24. - A new variety of Musa borneensis, M. borneensis var. donggalaensis Sulis. is proposed based upon specimens from Donggala, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Endemic status of M. borneensis was rejected. The description, distribution map and the identification key are provided.

Abstract

Kecondang or Taka (Tacca leontopetaloides), a member of Taccaceae, is one the carbohydrate alternatives to rice which can be developed in coastal area. With the global warming, the sea level has increased and small islands are more isolated. The people who lives in these islands should depend on their bioresources.As Taka inhabits coastal area, the development of this plant becomes critical.A total of 65 accessions of Taka from 9 provenances in Indonesia (Sukabumi, Madura, Kp.Siung (Yogyakarta), Gn. Kidung (Yogyakarta), and the small islands in Karimun Jawa namely Nyamuk, Katang, Cendekia, Kumbang, Seruni islands) were characterized using six ISSR markers [GSGG (TG5)T; CCAG(TGG)3TG; GGAG(TGG)3TG; BDBT(TCC4); (AC)8C; (AG)8G]. The scoring of the fragments resulted in 55 (69.6%) polymorphic bands. The size of the bands varied from 150bp to 1,6kb. The 65 accessions of Taka made several clusters according to their provenances. The range of individual genetic dissimilarity was from 0.012 to 0.186. The results showed that amongst nine population studied, Gn. Kidul, Yogyakarta population has the highest level of genetic variation with mean values of Na = 1.3544±0.4814, Ne =1.1784±0.3025, PLP = 35.44% and He = 0.1094±0.1681. Whereas, P. Nyamuk, Kep. Karimun Jawa population has the lowest level of genetic variation with mean values of Na = 1.0759±0.2666, Ne = 1.0523±0.2163, PLP = 7.59% and He = 0.0275±0.1097.

Abstract

The diversity of wild banana species (genus Musa, listed in Flora of Java) has been revised. The present taxonomic study is based on morphological characteristics observed in the herbarium specimens deposited at the Herbarium Bogoriense (BO), living collections in the Bogor Botanical Garden, the Cibodas Botanical Garden, and during the explorations done at Mt. Salak, West Java. Eight species of Musa (Musa acuminata, M. balbisiana, M. coccinea, M. ornata, M. salaccensis, M. sanguinea, M. textilis and M. velutina) and seven infraspecific taxa of M. acuminata are recognized in Java, of which two infraspecific taxa are endemic. West Java is the center of distribution for the wild banana species in Java. Taxonomic descriptions including an identification key are presented.

Abstract

The diversity of wild banana species in Sulawesi was investigated based on the morphological characteristics of herbarium specimens collected in Sulawesi and deposited in the Herbarium Bogoriense, Bogor, Indonesia (BO). New specimens were collected from Central, North, South, and Southeast Sulawesi, and digital type specimens were also used in this study. The aim of this study was to describe the diversity of wild banana species in Sulawesi as most Musaceae specimens stored at BO have not been identified. By examinating 110 sheets of herbarium specimens, five species of Musa, including two infraspecific taxa of M. acuminata housed in Sulawesi, were identified. Musa acuminata, M. celebica, and M. textilis were previously reported from Sulawesi. However, M. balbisiana and M. itinerans are two new records of wild banana species in Sulawesi. Identification keys, descriptions, distribution maps, and line-drawing illustrations of these two species are provided.

Abstract

Article Highlights- Botanical inventory in Halmahera island, North Maluku has found the species Melothria pendula for the first time.- In Indonesia, the species Melothria pendula is previously known only from Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, and Lesser Sunda Island.- DNA barcodes for the species Melothria pendula from Indonesia firstly deposited in NCBI GenBank. AbstractThis study was conducted to explore Melothria pendula on Halmahera Island. Previously, the species is known to occur in Bali, Sulawesi, Sumatra, Java (Indonesia), Malay Peninsula, Sabah (Malaysia), as well as the Philippines. Results of this study improved insights into the current knowledge about geographic distribution of Melothria. Moreover, the description of the species, habitat, critical taxonomic notes, color plates, distribution map, and DNA barcode were also presented in this study.
