Abstract

This article reveals the role of Burdah as an Arabic literary book that has become a regular practice of the Moslem community in Manado. The researcher tries to find out the social and cultural aspects through the Arabic text pertaining to concrete condition where the content of the book is practiced and this serves as the key to comprehend the users’ view and thinking pattern. The problems paralleled to the research objective is identifying and analyzing the social, spiritual and metaphysical reflection. The research findings indicate socially, there is a unitary perception in which the user community is called to set up an organization to learn about the book. The projected spiritual transformation of the book as a prophecy work toward a future hope makes it a routine regular practice at wedding ceremony, housewarming, and children under five thanksgiving. Metaphysical transformation is held as a miracle so that this regular practice can cure various diseases. This belief rooted in the user community perception has become a daily routine custom even though the Arabic language read is not understood. Abstract

Language is a means of human communication through social interaction with others. According to Chomsky, language is a collection of sentences, each with a certain length and built by a set of specific elements. Language is a regular system from various forms of sounds used in expressing thoughts and feelings of the users of the language. Indonesian language was born on October 28, 1928, grew and developed from the Malay language since ancient times, and has been used as a lingua franca not only in the archipelago, but also in almost all of Southeast Asia. This study examines the language based on the internal object of linguistic study; micro linguistic and one of its sub-discipline is morphology, focused on forms of acronyms used in UPTD Balai Peralatan dan Perbekalan Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Provinsi Sulawesi Utara. The research focus is on the forms of acronyms used in UPTD Balai Peralatan dan Perbekalan Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Provinsi Sulawesi Utara. There are three forms of acronyms used by the Aparatur Sipil Negera (Civil Servant) and Tenaga Harian Lepas (Intern) on UPTD Balai Peralatan dan Perbekalan Dinas Pekerjaan Umum Provinsi Sulawesi Utara, which is acronym whose form is determined by the formation process based on the theory of O'Grady, Dobrovolsky, theory of Kridalaksana. H., and one of the form does not follow the two existing theories. Of the thirty two acronyms found, twenty nine are formal acronyms in Indonesian language and the other three are informal acronyms.

Abstract

This writing confirms that the Arabic linguistic phenomena is cherished by its users even though the historical background reveals the users had limited competence. The research aim is to describe the determining reasons why the Arabic language is accepted and cherished by the Muslim community in Manado. The primary data source are the selected respondents in line with the religious social group representative category. The secondary data originates from the references. The research findings indicate that there are two main factors that explain why the Arabic language is revered by the user community, the elements are culture and history. Cultural study includes values, thinking patterns, convictions, admiration, sacredness, and the beauty of literary art, the richness of vocabulary that connects virtues and language. The historical context relates that Arabic linguistics is the language of prophecy, the language that shifted the ancient civilization to the modern era, and the translating language of science and technology as a powerful spirit that transforms and moves the Western world toward revival.
