Abstract

Teaching English is a challenging to teacher of English. They must work hard to teach, introduce and persuade students to learn. There are four skills in teaching English, such as listening, speaking, reading and writing. Among them, speaking will be challenging for students. They are afraid to talk and no self confidence to write in English. It is totally hard for students who learn English as a Foreign Language. They don’t have more opportunities to learnt English. It makes students lazy to learn, speak and write English. In this case, teachers must be smart to find strategy or right technique. In order to improve students’ interest and ability a method can be used. Picture Series is one of the methods which is suitable to be applied in teaching students in the classroom. This method can motivate and inspire students to write. Students will find ideas through the pictures. It is so helpful and useful in order to improve students’ writing ability.

Abstract

Abstract Motivation is needed in improving students’ speaking ability. It is so important to realize the strategy which is suitable to students’ life. Students face many problems in speaking English. They are afraid to talk and no self confidence to try speaking English. It is totally hard for students who learn English as a Foreign Language. They don’t have a place to practice their English. It makes students lazy to learn and speak English. In this case, teachers must be smart to find strategy or right technique. As a teacher or instructor of English, we must be active to find out appropriate strategy to help our students. In order to solve the problem, there will be some methods can be applied in teaching and learning process. These methods can motivate and inspire students to speak. Abstract

The purposes of this study were to find out (1) whether there was a significant difference in vocabulary achievement between students who were taught through Project Based Learning, , (2) whether there was a significant difference in speaking achievement between the students who were taught through project based learning, (3) whether there was a significant correlation between vocabulary and speaking achievements of the seventh grade students of Junior High school Number 18. The population of this study consisted of the seventh grade of Junior high school students. The total number of the population was 14, while the sample consisted of 14 students in the experimental group. In collecting the data, the pretest, treatment and posttest were used. However, the data were analyzed by using t-test. It was found that (1) there was a significant difference in vocabulary achievement where the sig value (2 tailed) was lower than 0.05, (2) there was a significant difference in speaking achievement where the sig value (2 tailed) was lower than 0.05, (3) there was a significant correlation and contribution between vocabulary and speaking. It could be concluded that Project based Learning can improved students’ vocabulary and speaking achievements.

Abstract

The Purpose of the study is to determine the use of Illustrated text to improve students’ motivation in Reading Skill at SMA Gajah Mada Palembang. Quasi experimental was used. An illustrated text has been given to the students at SMA Gajah Mada Palembang. There were some questions related to the text. The result showed that there was good result for students who taught by Illustrated text. Based on the research, Illustrated text can be used to improve students’ motivation in Reading skill. This method can be sollution to help students’ to learn and it is reccommended for the next researchers and teachers who has interest to conduct reading skill as their research

Abstract

Learning English as a foreign Language is challenging. It needs motivation and strong effort. The most difficult skill in English is Speaking. There are some components for making speaking improved. Those components must be covered and faced by all speakers. In order to teach Speaking skill to students, the teachers can use appropriate method which is effective and right for students’ need. Story completion can be the sollution to make students easy to speak and get ideas. Story Completion has been applied and the result showed that it was effective and helped students to write. Therefore, many methods can be applied to make students fun and happy in speaking. We can choose method which is effective and easily to be used. The purpsoe of this study is to know whether the story completion is effective or no to increase students’ ability in speaking skill. .Quantitative method with quasi experimental were used. The result of this study showed that there was siginificant improvement the use of story completion in speaking skill Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa asing cukup menantang. Sehingga membutuhkan semangat dan motivasi yang kuat karena berbicara Bahasa inggris merupakan keahlian yang sulit. Ada beberapa komponen dalam membuat kemampuan Bahasa Inggris meningkat. Untuk mengajarkan berbicara Bahasa Inggris kepada siswa membutuhkan metode yang tepat yang efektif dan sesuai kebutuhan siswa. Story completion adalah salah satu solusi untuk berbicara Bahasa Inggris . Story completion dapat membuat pembelajaran speaking menjadi menyenangkan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui apakah efektif atau tidak dalam penggunaan story completion pada keahlian berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Kuantitatif eksperimental telah dipakai. Dan hasilnya terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan pada penggunaan Story completion dalam Keahlian Berbicara Bahasa Inggris siswa.

Abstract

Language is crucial for communication and understanding in various aspects of life, including economy, education, politics, and culture. English is the dominant language, but learning it can be challenging due to native speakers' unique personalities and cultures. Speaking ability is crucial for language development and fluency in a second language, and technology like Hilokal offers new opportunities for language learners to improve their skills through interactive apps. This study uses George's library research theory and qualitative research to understand Hilokal, a language learning app that bridges the gap between formal instruction and real-life language use. The app offers interactive games, real audio recordings, and movies to expose learners to native speakers' speech patterns, addressing barriers to building speaking skills. However, Hilokal has two main drawbacks: less popularity and usability compared to popular platforms like Duolingo, and may not be suitable for young learners due to its focus on active conversation. To compete, Hilokal needs to invest in targeted marketing, optimize its user interface, collaborate with language educators, and create an age-appropriate version for young learners.

Abstract

The topic of this study is “The use of pictures to improve the writing skills of eight grade students of SMPN 1 Makarti Jaya Banyuasin”. This discussion of this lesson is to answer the question of is there a significant improvement between students learning to use pictures learning to use pictures and not to use picture?In this study, researcher used quansi experiments using pre test and post test. The population is eighth grade,especially grade 8.1 and 8.5. One of the classes used as the experimental class is class of 8.5 and the control class is class of 8.1.     The use of media image to improve students writing skills is applied to the experimental class, namely class of  8.5. While the control class does not use images. Each class held treatment and the research lasted for 16 meetings with different pictures at each meeting.From the results of the pretest and post test that have been carried out, the researcher gets the maximum result, namely the valueon the pretest 72% to 78% in the post test. Before holding the post test with the same picture,students were given treatment for 14 meetings. From the results of this study, this means that the use of images can improve students writing skills. The data collection was carried out using the SPSS application.
