Abstract

A mode choice on transportation model, are developed based on the economic theory is called the Random Utility Maximization (RUM), which emphasizes the use of rationality in the selection process. In 2008, Caspar G. Chorus developed the Random Regret Minimization (RRM) theory, which facilitated the development of the voting behavior theory (choice behavior), in which a state of choice behavior minimizes regret that may arise from selection. This preliminary study aims to demonstrate differences in the calculation results in the analysis of RUM and RRM in the case of the selection of vehicle types. Such results exhibit the intermodal characteristic of work or business travel. The method of analysis used in this study is the stated preference technique. Results of the comparison analysis between RUM and RRM showed no significant difference across the purposes of travel, total travel time, and destination point.

Abstract

Pavement will cause tensions continuously due to traffic loads which may result in damage to the pavement. For this case, the detection and repairation of damage early on pavement will prevent damage which may be developed into a pavement failure. Survey of  the condition of the road is one of the early efforts made ​​, in this case drive comfort is the most important part of the driver in assessing the road conditions which are influenced by the level of the ruggedness of  road surface . To find out the level of flatness of the road, which is now developed method is the measurement of flatness roads using NAASRA methods with general settings on halda as 100 m , but with this setting, we can  still found  highly enough  in ruggedness which  has caused many feeling uncomfortable while driving. This is what underlies  research of ruggedness or commonly known as IRI by comparing it with halda 50m and 200m in  the general Settings. This study uses the International Roughness Index (IRI) in determining the level of discomfort regarding road driving stability. IRI value is​​ obtained from direct field observations using roughometer-NAASRA. Based on the analysis result, getting a better result such as  relatively small IRI value, therefore the settings halda 50 would be better  used. But with a better  rate  the sensitivity of  the road  handling is likely reduced. This is in contrast with the halda settings 100 which will produce values ​​that tend to be large, but with the result, the priority levels of  handling will be better.

Abstract

The construction of railway line between Rantau Prapat and Kotapinang is expected to ease transportation process from Medan to Kotapinang, which could improve economic activities and become the alternative solution to make a trip. At the moment, existing public transport that covers this route is strictly limited to only medium or big buses. This research aims to identify the characteristic of trip maker and also to analyze the probability of mode shifting from bus to train for the mentioned trip. We use stated preference survey questionnaire, and it was distributed to random minimul sample needed. In order to obtain the utility function of the trip maker, the obtained data was then modeled in binomial logit method using SPSS statistical software. Tthe analyzed attributes difference (Δ) are trip cost difference (ΔX1), waiting time difference (ΔX2), travel time difference (ΔX3). The generated model has 0.114 of R2, and the probability of shifting from bus to train is 31.93% if the trip cost difference was Rp. 30.000. Meanwhile, the probability of shifting is 50.15% if the waiting time difference was less then 30 minutes. Lastly, the probability of shifting is 57.96% if the travel time difference was 1 hour.
