Abstract

The study aimed to find out students’ science process skill profile in grade XII. The research was conducted at SMAN 1 Tanah Putih Tanjung Melawan, Riau. The study was conducted by providing tests to students consisting of 10 questions on the scope of conventional biotechnology materials. This test used to measure students' science process skills, namely the ability to observe, communicate, interpret, propose hypotheses, apply concepts, ask questions, predict, use tools/materials, plan experiments, and classify. The research sample consisted of 70 students. The reliability value of the instrument was 0.948 of high category. It was obtained that the science process skill of students was categorized as medium with a percentage of 39.3%. The percentage of observing, communicating, interpreting, formulating hypotheses, applying concepts, asking questions, predicting, using tools/materials, planning experiments, and classifying abilities were 43.2%, 35.4%, 39.3%, 28.2%, 26.8%, 36.8%, 46.4%, 49.6%, 37.1%, and 50%, respectively. Some of the science process skill aspects showed a low category, namely in the aspects of formulating hypotheses and applying concepts. Other aspects showed medium category and almost all aspects were below 50%. The teacher’s role was very decisive as the main actor in improving students’ science process skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an inquiry laboratory skill assessment on 21st Century Biological Problems. The assessment tool developed is a non-test assessment in the form of tasks and rubrics. The research and development method (R&D) was used in this study. The subjects of this research were 30 students from one of the public high schools in Banten Province. This research instrument used performance assessment tools in tasks and rubrics, while the data analysis technique used descriptive statistics and data collection purposive sampling. The study showed that the validity of Aiken's V is 0.53. It can be said that the performance assessment tool is declared valid. The reliability value had an average measure value of 0.778. Moreover, the ICC (Interclass Correlation Coefficient) value assessed by three raters was categorized as moderate or moderate reliability. Based on the results of data analysis, the resulting instrument is ready to be used directly in measuring learning outcomes or as an assessment prototype for further development, especially in measuring students' laboratory inquiry abilities.

Abstract

The 21st century is very closely related to science and technology, so the demands of human resources are needed in order to be able to master various forms of skills. Information literacy is a very important ability for everyone when they are in the realm of biology, especially students. However, most schools at the high school level, especially in Indonesia, often do not strategically prioritize the development of information literacy. The use of the Personal Digital Inquiry learning model on the material of the human reproductive system can be used as a way to provide students with information literacy. This research aims to analyze the effectiveness of the application of the Personal Digital Inquiry learning model in improving students' information literacy on the material of the human reproductive system. This research uses a quasi-experimental method. The research design used was a non-equivalent control group design. The sample in this research were two classes, namely students of class XI IPA, amounting to 35-40 people. The instrument used is a multiple choice information literacy test with 10 numbers related to the material of the human reproductive system. Based on the results of information literacy data obtained from the pretest and posttest scores, the experimental class experienced a higher increase than the control class. The results showed that the experimental class had a higher N-gain than the control class. This shows that the use of the Personal Digital Inquiry learning model is able to improve and train students' information literacy.

Abstract

Most of the existing waste is organic waste originating from household activities. To overcome vegetable and fruit waste, fermentation is conducted by adding brown sugar and water to produce ecoenzymes. Ecoenzymes have many uses, from cleaning agents, and insecticides, to natural fertilizers. Ecoenzymes from various types of organic waste can provide different characteristics. The research method was an experimental laboratory to determine the differences in the peel type of medan oranges (Citrus x sinensis), squeezed oranges (Citrus reticulata), and lemons (Citrus limon) on the organoleptic character of eco enzymes and pH values. Through this research, it is notable that the eco enzymes from Citrus x sinensis peels have good eco enzyme criteria and the pH value of all orange peels has a pH of 3.
