Abstract

Purpose: This study investigates the interplay between financial markets and sustainable economic development, aiming to clarify how financial activities influence sustainability goals and vice versa. Research Design and Methodology: The research utilizes a multidisciplinary approach, drawing insights from economics, finance, environmental studies, sociology, and political science. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to synthesize existing knowledge and identify research gaps, focusing on theoretical and empirical studies without primary data collection. Findings and Discussion: Findings reveal that financial markets are crucial for capital allocation and resource mobilization but can also lead to environmental degradation, social inequality, and systemic risks. The study emphasizes the significant role of regulatory frameworks and institutional arrangements in determining how financial markets affect sustainability outcomes, highlighting the need for integrated reforms, regulatory measures, and stakeholder collaboration. Implications: The study underscores the importance of aligning financial incentives with sustainability objectives and enhancing the resilience of financial systems. It calls for stronger partnerships among stakeholders and suggests that further research is needed to explore innovative financial mechanisms that promote sustainable development and assess the long-term impacts of financial practices on sustainability. These insights are valuable for policymakers, practitioners, and scholars navigating the finance-sustainability nexus.

Abstract

Islamic economics has emerged as a crucial driver of macroeconomic growth in Indonesia, a country with the world’s largest Muslim population. Over recent years, this sector has demonstrated notable progress, with Islamic banking assets reaching approximately IDR 1,000 trillion in 2024, maintaining a steady annual growth rate of 10-15%. Islamic economics plays a key role in financing small and medium enterprises (SMEs), developing innovative Islamic financial products, and contributing to poverty alleviation efforts. However, challenges persist, including limited public understanding of Islamic financial products, regulatory inconsistencies, and competition with conventional financial institutions. These obstacles hinder the full potential of Islamic economics, but there are significant opportunities, particularly in Islamic investment products and financial technology (fintech), which could serve as catalysts for future growth. Strengthened collaboration between the government, financial institutions, and society is critical to overcoming these challenges and maximizing opportunities for sustainable and inclusive development. This study explores the role, challenges, and prospects of Islamic economics in Indonesia’s macroeconomic growth and provides strategic recommendations to advance the sector towards greater inclusivity and sustainability.

Abstract

The corn commodity in Gorontalo Province has an important role in supporting food security and the regional economy, however its competitiveness in national and international markets still faces various challenges. This research aims to analyze the competitiveness of Gorontalo corn commodities through a literature review of markets and product diversification. The competitiveness of corn in Gorontalo is influenced by factors such as conditions of production factors, global price fluctuations, access to modern technology and agricultural infrastructure. Even though it has great potential, most Gorontalo corn products are still sold in raw form, which reduces their added value. Product diversification, such as processing corn into flour, starch or bioethanol, can be a strategy to increase competitiveness. This research concludes that strengthening the competitiveness of Gorontalo corn requires synergy between the government, farmers and business actors, as well as the application of modern technology to increase productivity and production efficiency.
