Abstract

Mathematics is an abstract science so that in the learning process it is often difficult for students to understand the material because students have learning difficulties. Learning barriers consist of 3 namely ontogenic obstacles, epistemological obstacles and didactical obstacles. In this study the aims were to find out and analyze the trend of writing an article using the epistemological obstacle theme in mathematics learning from 2000 to 2022, articles, countries of origin, authors and institutions that produced articles with the most citations and link strength using the bibliometric analysis method. The sample used is 61 search results articles using database dimensions according to the keywords that have been determined. The data is stored in csv form to be used in the VOSviewer software to obtain mapping in searching for publication trends.

Abstract

Mathematics is an abstract science so that in the learning process it is often difficult for students to understand the material because students have learning difficulties. Learning barriers consist of 3 namely ontogenic obstacles, epistemological obstacles and didactical obstacles. This study aims to analyze the trend of writing articles with the theme of epistemological obstacles in mathematics learning from 2000 to 2022. Articles are analyzed based on country of origin, authors and institutions that produce articles with the most citations and link strength. The analysis uses the method of bibliometric analysis. The sample used was 61 search results articles using database dimensions with the keyword epistemological obstacles in mathematics. The results of the analysis show that this study fluctuates every year. Didi Suryadi is the author with the most authors and the author with the most total links and Athanasios Gagatsis is the author with the highest number of citations. The themes regarding form, learning obstacles, researchers, operations, participants, and didactical design research are the newest themes related to epistemological obstacles in mathematics so that they can become references for updating further research.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of students' difficulties in solving proportional reasoning problems and the lack of proportional reasoning research at the high school level. This research aims to describe in depth the ability of high school students to solve proportional reasoning problems and learning obstacles that may occur. The method used is qualitative with a case study approach. The research subjects involved were 5 students from grades 10 to 12. The instruments used were tests and interview guides. The research results showed that there were 4 mistakes made by students in solving proportional reasoning problems, namely (1) Using the additional strategy in solving proportional reasoning problems; (2) Not being able to solve problems of indirect proportion; (3) Using multiplication strategies in solving non-proportional problems; and (4) Not being able to compare ratios. Concerning learning obstacles, there are 2 types of learning obstacles that are indicated to be experienced by students, namely epistemological obstacles and ontogenic obstacles. The results of this research can be used as a basis for carrying out further research in the form of research that designs learning flows and/or learning designs that can develop students' proportional reasoning abilities.
