Abstract

This article analyzes the product of Salman Harun's Qur'anic  interpretation with  Facebook  as the medium. As one of the senior professors who pursue the field of interpretation, he has managed to follow the times by utilizing internet technology. There are two focus areas in the study; the first aspect of the sense of Indonesian tafsir attached to the self of Salman Harun, the two aspects of the novelty of discourse that became the basic character of social media. Both aspects are interesting to be studied with a hermeneutic approach. Given that  the  methodological problem that often arises from the hermeneutic approach is the context of the interpreter that is difficult to trace accurately, then this article finds its relevance to the case of Salman Harun's interpretation which uses the facebook media as the actualization of its interpretation product.

As one of result, this research shows that the correlation between data and claim in MUI’s book categorized as unilateral fact that produces negative issues and impacts to discriminative action for Shi’a community. Keywords: Indonesian Shi’a, Stephen Toulmin, Theory of Argument Abstrak Perdebatan mengenai Syiah di Indonesia meningkat seiring dengan meruncingnya kontestasi geopolitik di Timur Tengah, khususnya yang diwakili oleh Saudi Arabia dan Iran. Abstract

Kaifiat Qulhu is a manuscript from Dayah Tanoh Abee, located in Seulimeum Aceh Besar, Aceh. The text explains the prayer wheel (wirid) of Q. 112 for self-salvation, parent-salvation and ancestors that referred to tariqa alawiya, especially to Abd Allah b. Alawi al-Haddad (1634-1720). This text was written by Muhammad Ali (d. 1969), eighth generation of Dayah Tanoh Abee, in 1328/1910. Kaifiat Qulhu, which illustrated the construction of religiousity in Tanoh Abee, outlines the character of diversity in Islamic practices and sufi order in Aceh that can be seen in two domains. Firstly, in how the text contains the critique of tahlil tradition to bless the death people that according to the text, it has no argument in hadith. Secondly, in evidence of transmission (ijazah) of tariqa alawiya beside Shattariya that was more popular in Aceh previously. This research finds that the manuscript is construct two things: first, dialectical discourse of tariqa in Aceh and second, the openness of Aceh’s Ulama to the differences.

Abstract

This article discusses an alternative perspective in understanding the content of the Qur’an i.e., the perspective of minority Muslim scholars. The object of this study is the thought of tafsir Abdullah Saeed and Farid Esack who are positioned as Muslim scholars of Western institutions living as a minority, how their views of the Qur’an and how they develop interpretive methodologies according to the context of the environment in which they live. This article shows that the construction of the thought of Abdullah Saeed and Farid Esack positioned as minority scholars can represent its own contemporary model of interpretation. Abdullah Saeed with the idea of contextual interpretation laid out three bases of interpretive methodology: hierarchical values, contextual meaning, and systematic contextual interpretation. The three bases of the methodology are used to see the extent to which verses on ethical law can be understood and practiced in contemporary contexts while remaining grounded in the substance of the values carried when they are derived. While Farid Esack with his idea of liberative exegesis tried to break conservatism in South Africa with three methodological foundations: progressive revelation, reception hermeneutics, and the liberation theology of the Qur’an. The foundation of this methodology was used as a basis for value and legitimacy in supporting the agenda of popular solidarity between Muslims and non-Muslims in South Africa to overthrow the apartheid regime.
