Abstract

Pencemaran logam berat tembaga (Cu) dalam limbah cair industri merupakan permasalahan lingkungan yang berbahaya karena bersifat toksik dan sulit terdegradasi secara alami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji efektivitas ampas kopi dan kulit ari pipil jagung sebagai adsorben alternatif dalam menurunkan konsentrasi ion Cu (II) pada limbah sintetik, serta menganalisis kinetika proses adsorpsinya. Adsorben dipreparasi melalui proses pengeringan, karbonisasi pada suhu 400–500 °C, dan aktivasi kimia menggunakan larutan HCl 0,1 M. Proses adsorpsi dilakukan dalam kolom adsorpsi dengan variasi waktu kontak 10, 20, dan 30 menit. Konsentrasi Cu (II) dianalisis menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kedua adsorben efektif menurunkan konsentrasi Cu (II), dengan efisiensi tertinggi sebesar 77,92% untuk ampas kopi dan 90,91% untuk kulit ari pipil jagung pada waktu kontak 30 menit. Kajian kinetika menunjukkan bahwa model pseudo orde dua (Ho) memberikan kecocokan terbaik dengan nilai R² masing-masing sebesar 0,993 dan 0,976, yang mengindikasikan bahwa mekanisme adsorpsi berlangsung secara kimisorpsi. Hasil ini membuktikan bahwa ampas kopi dan kulit ari pipil jagung berpotensi sebagai adsorben ramah lingkungan, murah, dan efektif untuk pengolahan limbah cair yang mengandung logam berat Cu (II).

Abstract

Golden snails are widely recognized as significant pests in Indonesian rice fields because they damage young rice plants by attacking their stems and leaves. Despite their harmful agricultural impact, golden snail shells contain a high calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) content of approximately 60.56%, making them a valuable raw material for calcium oxide (CaO) production through calcination. In this study, golden snail shells were calcined at 700, 800, and 900°C for 5 hours. The resulting CaO materials were characterized using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), and Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) surface area analysis. The findings demonstrate that calcination temperature significantly influences the physicochemical properties of the produced CaO, particularly its surface area. Among the tested conditions, the sample calcined at 900°C exhibited the highest specific surface area of 244.5211 m²/g, indicating enhanced porosity and a greater number of potential active sites at elevated calcination temperatures.

Abstract

Abstract.  Anise seeds can be processed into essential oils by steam distillation and solvent extraction. This research aims to produce a high oil yield by determining the optimum conditions of extraction, extracting anise seeds according to optimum conditions, producing anise oil with good quality based on 90% alcohol solubility analysis, analyzing the acid number, and conducting GC-MS analysis. The Activity Method was carried out by determining the optimum conditions of extraction on the effect of the variation in the ratio between anise seed powder and petroleum ether. Furthermore, based on optimal conditions, extraction was carried out at a temperature of 60°C, 5 hours with 5 repetitions. The results of essential oils were analyzed including solubility analysis, oil acid number, and GC-MS. The optimal extraction conditions were obtained at the ratio of anise seeds and petroleum ether 1:12.5 with an average oil yield of 4.72%. The results of the analysis showed that anise oil had good quality based on the oil solubility in 90% alcohol with a 1:7 ratio. The acid number of anise seed oil was obtained at 1.14444. GC-MS analysis showed that anise seed oil contained estragol, anethole, limonene, fenchone, and anis ketone.Keywords:Anise seeds, essential oil, soxhlet, GC-MS
