Abstract

Nowadays, the prevalence of hypertension and its concomitant risk of cardiovascular and kidney disease development is increasing as the disability evidence in the society also rises. One of the potential risk factors of prehypertension is anxiety and it has already well-known that cortisol is a marker of anxiety. There are some nonpharmacologic methods to relieve anxiety: exercise and relaxation. Taichi Chuan is a low intensity aerobic exercise that also gives a relaxation effect. This study is organised to find out the effect of Taichi Chuan (TCC) and Jacobson’s Progressive Muscular Relaxation (JPMR) on cortisol level in pre hypertension patients. This is a pre and post-test design study with a total of 26 pre hypertension patients included. They were randomly divided into 2 groups. Group I performed Taichi Chuan exercise, while group II performed JPMR for 18 times. The intervention frequency was 3x/week for 6 weeks with 30 minutes duration for each session. In the study, which was held in April-June 2015, there was a decrease but no significant difference of cortisol concentration in both group. The comparison between groups also did not show statistical difference. However there were significant difference noted on the blood pressure before and after intervention in both groups.

Abstract

Back Saver Sit and Reach Test (MBSSRT). Kata kunci: Chair-Based Exercise, Senam Lansia, fleksibilitas lumbal, lanjut usia.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Stroke is the leading cause of disability including decreased walking speed. It is estimated that 73% of stroke sufferers have a lack of motor control and result in limited mobilization. Kinesiotaping(KT) is a method that can be added to other forms of exercise including weight shifting training. With the addition of kinesiotaping is expected to occur improvements in muscle performance and balance so that the speed of walking increases. Objective: To prove the effect of the addition of KT on chronic stroke rehabilitation that gets weight shifting training on walking speed. Methods: This study is a randomized controlled trial pre-test and post test control group design. There were 18 subjects of chronic stroke rehabilitation patients divided into 2 groups, namely the control group that got weight shifting training (9 people) and the treatment group that got the addition of kinesiotaping to weight shifting training (9 people). The walking speed assessment was measured before and after 4 weeks of treatment. Results: There was a significant difference in the mean walking speed before and after treatment in each group (p<0.001). In the treatment group 0.60 ± 0.08 and 0.68 ± 0.07 at the end. In the control group 0.62 ± 0.05 at the beginning and 0.64 ± 0.05 at the end. There was a sigificant difference in the mean walking speed increase in both groups (p<0.001). Conclusion: The mean increased walking speed was higher in the group that got the addition of KT in chronic phase stroke rehabilitation who received weight shifting training.

Abstract

BACKGROUND : Osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee is a joint disease with a high prevalence among the elderly. OA can cause balance disorders, which are one of the main causes of falls in the elderly. Balance can be measured using several scoring systems, one of which is the Berg Balance Scale (BBS). One of the treatment modalities for OA is laser therapy which is non-invasive and easy to apply. Low level laser therapy (LLLT) has been widely used in patients with knee OA, but recently high intensity laser therapy (HILT) has begun to be used in physical therapy with advantages over a wider range and depth. AIMS :  to compare the effect of LLLT and HILT therapy on improving functional balance in the elderly with knee OA. METHOD : This research is a randomized controlled trial pre-test and post-test-controlled group design. The sampling method used in this study is the simple random sampling method. The sample size was 27 subjects and divided into two groups, the LLLT group (n=14) and the HILT group (n=13). Each subject received laser therapy sessions 2 times a week for 4 weeks. Balance was assessed using the BBS before and after the intervention. RESULT :  There was an increase in BBS scores before and after treatment in the HILT group (p<0.001) and in the LLLT group (p<0.001), with the increase in the HILT group (7.79 ± 2.16) significantly greater than in the LLLT group (3 .08 ± 0.76) (p<0.001). CONCLUSION : HILT improves balance score better than LLLT.

Abstract

Background: Futsal is a development of football which is the most popular sport in the world. In futsal there are many demands on individual technical and tactical skills that require a good balance. Kinesio taping stimulate mechanoreceptors, this stimulus can increase proprioception in normal tissue. Proprioception receptors are located in the skin, muscles and joints. For the distal extremities, receptors in the skin and joints become the most important factor. Increasing the ankle proprioception is important to improve balance that supports futsal players. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of kinesio taping on balance, immediately after the application of kinesio taping. Method: This study was a randomized control trial. The subjects were 44 recreational futsal players which were divided into 2 groups, control group (n=22) and treatment group (n=22). The control group performed the mCTSIB test without kinesio tapping application, the treatment group performed the mCTSIB test with kinesio tapping installed. Balance was measured before and after the intervention. Results: The average mCTSIB results in the control group showed an improvement of 1.45±2.59 with p=0.016. The average mCTSIB results in the treatment group showed an improvement of 24.27±1.49 with p=0.000. The results for the difference between pre-test and post-test scores showed a greater increase in the treatment group, this increase was statistically significant, with a value of p=0.000 Conclusion: There is a significant improvement in balance after kinesio taping application.
