Abstract

Tanjung Selamat Village is one of the villages in South Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province. Tanjung Selamat Village has several types of bananas, one of which is the Kepok Banana. This study aims to determine and analyze the morphology of the Kepok Banana plant (Musa Paradisiaca Var. Balbisiana colla) in Tanjung Selamat Village, South Labuhanbatu Regency, North Sumatra Province. This type of research is descriptive qualitative by making observations with survey techniques observing the morphology of Kepok Banana plants. The technique used in collecting data by way of observation or observations and interviews. The Kepok Banana plant (Musa Paradisiaca Var. Balbisiana colla) found in the village has several characteristics and characters in the morphology of the Kepok Banana plant, starting from the stem, size, color, and roots, leaves, flowers, stems, fruit, and others. In this case the Kepok Banana plant (Musa Paradisiaca Var. Balbisiana colla) in Tanjung Selamat Village from the results of the study showed that the morphology of the Kepok Banana plant had a green color, stem diameter 24 cm wide, 227 cm high, brown roots there are white fibrous roots, leaves are dark and light green, and the edges of the leaves are flat, the tips of the leaves are rounded. The flower stalk is 7-8 cm, the color is yellowish red the flowers are white inside, the length of the fruit is 13 cm and the diameter is 3 cm.

Abstract

Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a vine, elongated, and has fruit that is small oval in color and has rather fine nodules, with a characteristic very bitter taste found in the fruit. The purpose of this study was to determine the quality of bitter melon which is used as a food ingredient and to increase the value of developing food products in society and the modern market. The method used in this research is a descriptive survey method. Based on the results of research conducted bitter gourd contains lots of vitamins and very good properties. The existence of bitter gourd is very easy to cultivate so that it can be used as food that can be marketed in the community. Therefore, it can be easier to introduce bitter melon to the public by managing and knowing the marketing strategy for bitter melon, so that bitter melon can develop into the international market. Given the low and limited use of bitter gourd, it is therefore necessary to develop food products made from bitter gourd to increase its value and use which is none other than the nutritional content of bitter gourd. One way to take advantage of the value of its content is to process it into bitter melon chips. Chips are snacks that have a high shelf life, good taste, and many variations to meet consumer tastes.

Abstract

Moringa leaves are one part of the plant that has been widely researched for its nutritional content and usefulness. Moringa is an important plant from the moringaceae family that has many uses. Every part of this tree has benefits as a source of medicine, food, beauty products, industrial purposes. Traditional medicinal plants are types of plants that have medicinal functions and are used to cure or prevent various diseases. The purpose of this study is to determine the utilization of Moringa plants in Aek Kulim Mandalasena Hamlet, Silangkitang District, South Labuhanbatu Regency. By using data collection techniques in the form of observation and interviews with informants and people who utilize moringa plants used as traditional medicine. Moringa leaves are used as traditional medicine to cure or prevent various diseases such as lowering high blood pressure, helping to relieve aches due to gout and rheumatism, strengthening the uterus and the most important thing is to cure / prevent cancer. In addition to traditional medicine, moringa leaves are also used for daily preparations such as fresh vegetables, clear vegetables, and stir-fried vegetables.
