Abstract

Death events are often regarded as an adverse event, tiring, painful because death picks up someone you love. When humans are abandoned by loved ones, be they husbands, wives, children, lawyers, friends, friends or extended family because death is certain to be miserable in sadness, so some people consider too much death as a detrimental, tiring, tense or torturous event. It is important to understand that death does not recognize wealth, profession, position, honor. Death picks up humans at a time that can't be realized. Grieving when experiencing death is not the best solution because no one gets up again from death because of sadness. Death also comes without asking for permission from humans, because death is part of life. But it is important for humans to fully understand that behind the death which is considered as a detrimental, sad, painful thing, there is a great joy awaiting the death of a spirit. This issue will be resolved in this article.

Abstract

This article addresses various theological debates regarding "what restrains the wicked." The article argues that Paul's expression regarding what restrains the wicked is a repetition of information from 1 Thessalonians 1:5, mentioning the term πνεύματι ἁγίῳ (Holy Spirit) as a source of enduring strength throughout the history of the church. To substantiate this claim, the article employs an exegetical method and employs two steps of the exegetical method, namely Contextual Analysis and Grammatical Analysis. Based on the contextual and grammatical analysis, the article concludes that "What Restrains" in 2 Thessalonians 2:6 refers to the Holy Spirit. This is supported by the fact that the Person of the Holy Spirit is repeatedly conveyed to the church in the first and second letters as a powerful entity to encourage the ministry spirit of the Apostle Paul and to provide strength to the congregation, including restraining the wicked.
