Abstract

Background: Bankart lesion is torn in the anterior membrane covering the shoulder joint (labrum) due to continuous dislocation of the shoulder joint forward. Bankart lesions can occur due to sports activities that use the front of the shoulder, such as javelin throwing. It is not uncommon for injuries to javelin-throwing athletes to require physiotherapy treatment so they can return to playing javelin-throwing. Aim: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the training program such as ultrasound therapy and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), active assisted range of motion (ROM) exercises, active assisted ROM exercises against gravity, strengthening exercises, wall climbing, and open cage exercises. to tourists who are javelin throwing athletes who experience Bankart lesions. Case Report: In this case, a 42-year-old man from France came to the physiotherapy clinic complaining of pain, stiffness, and limited movement of the right shoulder joint. The patient underwent surgery for Bankart shoulder repair on his right shoulder on October 16th, 2022, due to repeated dislocations three times during javelin throws. The patient has limited movement and pain in the right shoulder. In addition, the right hand also does not swing when walking. On static inspection, the chest, shoulder, and right arm are smaller (atrophied) and positioned lower than the left. There is an incision in the anterior deltoid area (post-Bankart repair shoulder). Intervention modalities included ultrasound therapy applications and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS). Exercise therapy includes active assisted ROM exercises, active assisted ROM exercises against gravity, strengthening exercises, wall climbing, and open cage exercises. Result: After interventions, the patient’s recovery condition improved. An exercise program designed and implemented on patients for two weeks has slowly raised the patient's self-confidence and increased the patient's ability to perform physical activities. Conclusion: The physiotherapy intervention program for a Bankart lesion patient showed an improvement in the patient’s condition, with an increase in ROM, an increase in muscle strength, and a decrease in perceived pain.

Abstract

Background: Increasing the age of the elderly will cause a decrease in body functions. One is a decreased cardiovascular function, triggering cardiovascular disorders such as increased blood pressure. Increased blood pressure in the elderly can affect postural balance, so that it can cause an increase in the risk of falls in the elderly. Methods: The study used a cross-sectional analytic design. This study was conducted on May 22, 2022. The sample in this study was selected using a simple random sampling technique. The number of samples in this study was 78 people. The data was analyzed using the SPSS software, which was divided into three parts, namely univariate analysis to describe the frequency distribution of each variable, normality test to determine whether the distribution of data was normally distributed or not where the normality test used the KoImogrov-Smirnov test and bivariate analysis to determine the relationship between the two variables analysis method used Spearman's Rho test. Results: The relationship between systolic blood pressure and risk of fall was p=0.000 and r=0.866, while the relationship between diastolic blood pressure and risk of fall was p=0.000 and r=0.520. Conclusion: This study concludes that there was a relationship between blood pressure and the risk of falls in the elderly in Kelating Village.

Abstract

Background: Surfing is an extreme water sport that consists of various movements, including paddling, popping-up, and wave riding, and has a risk of musculoskeletal complaints. This study aimed to determine the description of musculoskeletal complaints in surfers. Methods: The study used a descriptive observational design with a cross-sectional approach. This study was conducted from February to May 2023 at the halfway club in Kuta Beach, Sanur Beach, and Canggu Beach using the total sampling technique with a total available population of 60 surfers. We included the sample with inclusion criteria and excluded the sample with exclusion criteria. Fifty-one surfers were eligible for the study. Data collection was carried out by interviews using the Nordic Body Map questionnaire. Results: Based on the Nordic Body Map questionnaire, musculoskeletal complaints in surfing players in Bali were a score of 2 (somewhat painful); most of them experienced complaints in the right knee (45.10%) and upper neck (39.22%). The risk level for musculoskeletal complaints in surfers in Bali was 46 people (90.2%) with a low-risk level and five people (9.8%) with a moderate risk level. Conclusion: The most musculoskeletal complaints in surfers in Bali are in the right knee, upper neck, right shoulder, left shoulder, waist, and ankle areas. The risk level for musculoskeletal complaints among surfers in Bali was mainly low, and some had a moderate risk level.

Abstract

Background: The aging process in older adults will bring comprehensive changes related to the ability of their physiological functions. This condition causes the elderly's sleep patterns to change with various sleep disorders, resulting in poor sleep quality. The decrease in sleep quality in the elderly can affect their quality of life, including balance disorders. This study aimed to determine the relationship between sleep quality and dynamic balance in the elderly. Methods: This research used a cross-sectional study conducted in Nyuh Kuning Traditional Village, Mas, Ubud, Gianyar, in November 2023. The sampling technique used in this study was total sampling with a sample size of 43 people aged 60 years and over. Sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) questionnaire, and dynamic balance was calculated using the Time Up and Go Test (TUG Test). Results: The research subjects were dominated by the elderly with poor sleep quality, 30 of whom were elderly (69.8%). Meanwhile, in dynamic balance, most research subjects had variations in dynamic balance and mobility, and the result of the TUG Test (+) was 33 elderly (76.7%). The obtained Sig. (2-tailed) value of the correlation between sleep quality and dynamic balance was 0.000 (<0.05). Sleep quality strongly correlates with dynamic balance, with a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.836, indicating a positive relationship. Conclusion: There was a positive significant relationship between sleep quality and dynamic balance in the elderly.
