As the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into Indonesia’s rapidly evolving financial sector accelerates, the country faces critical challenges in ensuring legal certainty and protecting personal security. The rise of AI technologies in banking, fintech, and investment platforms introduces new complexities in regulatory oversight, particularly in preventing crimes such as fraud, money laundering, and cybersecurity breaches. This study examines legal certainty in the regulation of AI-related crimes in Indonesia’s banking sector and its implicationsfor personal security. The increasing use of AI in financial services has created regulatory challenges, particularly regarding personal data protection, fraud, and accountability. This research employs a normative juridical method with a statutory approach, analysing relevant Indonesian laws, including the Personal Data Protection Law, the Banking Law, the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, and the Financial Services Authority regulations. The findings reveal a legal vacuum in addressing AI-facilitated crimes, particularly regarding the allocation of responsibility and preventive mechanisms. Although existing regulations provide partial protection, they do not yet accommodate the specific risks posed by AI technologies in banking. This regulatory lacuna threatens legal certainty and personal security, particularly the right to privacy. This study highlights the urgency of developing explicit AI-related criminal laws for the financial sector to balance innovation and protection. This research is limited to doctrinal legal analysis and does not include empirical data, which may be explored in future studies.

This paper critically examines the climate justice implications of Indonesia’s decision to relocate its capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, exploring the potential risks and benefits through the lens of climate vulnerability and environmental justice. Jakarta has long been grappling with climate-related challenges such as flooding, land subsidence, and rising sea levels, prompting the government to propose a new capital that would be more resilient to climate impacts. However, this relocation raises significant concerns about the environmental and social consequences for the new region, particularly with regard to land use, biodiversity loss, and the displacement of local communities. Using a climate justice framework, this study assesses the equitable distribution of both the benefits and burdens of the capital relocation, questioning whether the needs of vulnerable populations—such as indigenous peoples and rural communities—are adequately addressed. Through policy analysis, interviews with stakeholders, and an exploration of local environmental challenges, the paper explores how the relocation plan may inadvertently exacerbate socio-environmental inequalities. Findings suggest that while the new capital may alleviate some climate pressures in Jakarta, it also presents new threats to the indigenous communities and ecosystems in East Kalimantan, raising concerns about the sustainability and fairness of the relocation. The paper calls for a more inclusive and climate-resilient approach to urban planning that considers long-term environmental impacts and prioritizes the rights of marginalized communities in both Jakarta and East Kalimantan.

Digital labor platforms have become increasingly significant to the organization of urban services, including transportation, food delivery, and other forms of on-demand work in Indonesia. While these platforms offer consumers convenience and create accessible income opportunities, questions remain about workers’ earnings, employment protections, and dependence on algorithmically mediated systems. This study aims to examine the political economy of platform labor by investigating how digital business models redistribute risks and responsibilities between platform companies, workers, consumers, and the state. Using a comparative qualitative case-study design, the research would focus on selected platform-based occupations in major Indonesian urban centers. Data would be collected through semi-structured interviews with platform workers, analysis of publicly available platform policies and regulatory documents, and examination of worker narratives and collective advocacy. The analytical framework combines labor process theory, platform capitalism, and the concept of algorithmic management. Particular attention would be paid to incentive structures, performance monitoring, income uncertainty, and access to social protection. The study would also investigate how workers interpret autonomy and flexibility in relation to their actual capacity to control working conditions. By situating platform labor within Indonesia’s broader labor-market institutions, the research seeks to move beyond a binary distinction between technological innovation and worker exploitation. Its proposed contribution is an empirically grounded account of how digital intermediation reshapes labor relations in an emerging economy, with implications for labor regulation, social security, and the governance of platform-based employment.
