Abstract

Teaching Indonesian in formal schools today is regarded as a challenge by many Indonesian teachers. In a country like Indonesia, in which language situation is very complex due to many languages and dialects (and also the fast-growing English usage in big cities), this phenomenon can be understood. Since the country's independence, there have been several curricula-one of them is Kurikulum Berbasis Kompetensi (competence-based curriculum), the newest being Kurikulum Tingkat Satuan Pendidikan (Unit Level of Education-Based Curriculum). The latter seems to be regarded as the most ideal curriculum, because it can be adjusted to the regions' policy. The problems are that there are still Ujian Nasional (national examination) and that the 'readability' of the curriculum is still a big question for many teachers. This paper is focused on the elementary school teacher's strategies on applying the curriculum. This paper also discusses the curriculum, some principles on language learning, and the emergence of literary matters.

Abstract

Film bergenre komedi-drama berjudul Ngeri-ngeri Sedap merupakan sebuah film keluarga yang mengangkat isu sosial tentang keluarga. Berlatar belakang masyarakat suku Batak, film ini mencakup tuturan-tuturan antartokoh yang dapat dikupas secara lebih mendalam. Berangkat dari teori prinsip kerja sama yang dicetuskan oleh Grice (1975), tuturan dalam film ini dapat dianalisis lebih lanjut menggunakan teori relevansi Sperber dan Wilson. Selain itu, film ini telah diberi label sebagai film komedi, maka dari segi humor, tuturan pun dapat dianalisis menggunakan teori humor yang dijelaskan oleh Wijana (2004) dan Curcó (1997). Teori-teori tersebut digunakan untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian (i) bagaimana bentuk humor yang diciptakan dalam tuturan para pemeran dalam film Ngeri-ngeri Sedap? dan (ii) apa maksud tuturan-tuturan itu berdasarkan teori relevansi dan kaitannya dalam masyarakat? Hasil analisis memperlihatkan bahwa tuturan-tuturan yang terdapat dalam film ini mengandung humor yang berasal dari emosi negatif yang dilepaskan (teori pelepasan ketegangan) dan pematahan asumsi-asumsi penonton setelah mendengar tuturan dari tokoh (teori ketidaksejajaran). Selain itu, dalam konteks sosial, tuturan-tuturan tokoh mengandung kritik sosial yang dirasakan oleh penonton sebagai bagian dari masyarakat ketika penonton dapat menangkap dan merasakan tuturan-tuturan dalam film ini berdasarkan kemampuan kognitifnya.

Abstract

This research aims to describe expressive speech as an expression of politeness and impoliteness with moral values, which children learn during development. The data in this study used 42 expressive speeches of characters in the collection of fairy tales Jam Beker Raksasa & 9 Dongeng Seru Lainnya by Dian Kristiani. This research uses a qualitative approach through the analysis of Leech's politeness principle (1993), Leech's politeness scale (1993), Culpeper's impoliteness strategy (1996), and Linda and Eyre's moral values (1993). This research shows that expressive speech in this book uses more forms of impoliteness. Of the 42 expressive speeches, the researcher found 26 forms of impoliteness and 16 of politeness. In addition, the implications of using a form of politeness contain more moral values, respect, kindness, and friendliness, than impoliteness. Based on the data, the researcher found the strategy of direct impoliteness, violation of the approbation maxim, violation of the indirectness scale, fulfillment of the modesty maxim, fulfillment of the cost-benefit scale, and moral values of being.
