Abstract

Lebanon has experienced a long political stalemate due to sectarian tensions. The negative effect of confessionalism theory makes sectarian identity stronger and ultimately results in instability and fragility of the Lebanese political system. The opposition demands political and economic reforms. The Lebanese general election, 15 May 2022, is expected to bring goodness to the Lebanese people. This paper wants to analyze the possibility of these changes. The results of the research show that the transformation of Lebanon towards a democratic government is always hindered by sectarian conflicts within the government. But through the results of the 2022 elections, there is hope for political reform in Lebanon. The election of 13 independent MPs is a celebration of democracy in the Middle East. This is a very important small step towards more peaceful and democratic political reforms in Lebanon.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the economic system in the Middle East based on the available literature. The research method used is content analysis in the type of semiotic analysis. This type of semiotic content analysis method is considered in accordance with the data used by researchers, namely literature or text, both verbal and nonverbal. The results of this study indicate that the economic system in the Middle East is considered dynamic. This condition occurs to compensate for the complex problems in the region. However, among 10 countries in the Middle East, only Syria is closed about the economic system used by its country. The economic system in the Middle East does not seem to be fixated on the long history of the development of economic thought in the early days of Islam, the arrival of Western colonialism, the emergence of nation states in the Middle East, to the explosion of the potential wealth of natural resources of the Middle East in contemporary timesĀ

Abstract

The Abraham Accords are the most important agreement in the Middle East between Israel and Arab countries, such as Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco, and Sudan. The Abraham Accord has opened the gates of bilateral relations between Arab countries and Israel and has also changed the geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East. Until now, many previous studies have viewed the Abraham Accord as a strategic collaboration aimed at enhancing influence and countering the opposing power in the Middle East. As a result, this study presents a new perspective to examine another side of the Abraham Accord, namely its economic cooperation. This research uses a qualitative method to analyze comprehensively about the economic cooperation. The Abraham Accord is a potential platform to meet economic interests between countries. Economic interests are the main drivers in the ratification of the treaty. Strategic economic interests between countries are based on the same economic orientation that has the potential to open the door to other forms of intensive economic cooperation. Economic cooperation between Arab countries and Israel is focused on the economic diversification agenda that has an impact on economic growth and development between these countries. Theoretically, this research has implications for the existence of new approaches and perspectives in studying the Abraham Accord. As for practically, this research can be a reference in formulating policies related to the Middle East.
