Abstract

Stunting is a condition in which children have a height below the standard according to age. This is caused by chronic malnutrition during the first 1,000 days of life, from pregnancy to 23 months of age. This research uses a type of qualitative research with a phenomenological approach, which is an approach that examines an object of research naturally or as it is. The results showed that early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding was not applied to all toddlers. Some stunted toddlers are also not given exclusive breastfeeding, and the experience of informants in feeding children shows that children's appetite is reduced so that portions and frequency of eating are not as recommended. All informants provide complete basic immunization to their children, but only a few routinely weigh toddlers to the Posyandu every month. Regarding parenting, hygiene, and environmental hygiene, only one informant washed his hands using soap and running water before feeding the child.

The results of the study showed that most of them had applied parenting styles in caring for toddlers in daily life with sufficient categories of 30 people, 85.7%. Children who experienced stunting 1 as many as 22 people, 62.8% with 2 categories and those who did not experience stunting as many as 13 people 37.2%. Based on the results of the chi-square test, it was found that there was an influence of parenting on the incidence of stunting with a p-value of 0.025. It can be concluded that there is an influence of parenting on the incidence of stunting. Parenting is quite sufficient, becoming one of the challenges for health workers. There is still a need to provide education to parents in increasing knowledge about parenting and stunting.

Abstract

The growth and development of toddlers is something that needs great attention. This is because toddlerhood is a period of very rapid and critical growth, usually known as the golden age. There is potential for growth and development disorders in infants and toddlers due to a lack of balanced nutritional intake and knowledge about growth and development stimulation. PMT is one strategy for overcoming nutritional problems. Posyandu cadres as part of the posyandu driving team have a very important role in conveying the right information to mothers about PMT. Appropriate PMT can influence the nutritional status of toddlers. The aim of this community service activity is to increase the knowledge of posyandu cadres regarding proper feeding of babies and children with local ingredients. The methods used include education and practice in making baby and children's food using local ingredients. The results obtained by the cadres were an increase in knowledge after being given counseling which was shown by an increase in post test scores. The next activity is the practice of making baby and child food such as moringa nuggets, moringa vegetables, moringa pudding, dragon fruit pudding and so on. It is hoped that similar activities can continue to be carried out on an ongoing basis so that knowledge about feeding babies and children can be well disseminated to the community.
