Abstract

Science and Islam were originally one in the realm of the unity of existence (al-wahidat al-wujud) Allah SWT. Still, when humans accepted them, they became multi-fragmented because of the capacity of each human mind. Islamic education, which originates from the Qur'an and Hadiths contributes to integrating Science and Islam. For this reason, this article aimed to explore the implementation of the reintegration of Science and Islam in postgraduate Islamic education learning at one of the Islamic tertiary institutions in Jambi province, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach to explore and understand the participants' experiences. The data were derived from the results of semi-structured interviews and free interviews, which explain and convey explicit or implied meanings or symbols from the collected data related to the steps for implementing three categories, namely the conception of knowledge, approaches to implementing the reintegration of Science and Islam in Islamic education learning, and materials used. The data were processed and analyzed using domain analysis to obtain an overview of the implementation of Science and Islamic reintegration in Islamic education. The study results explain that the strategic steps for implementing the reintegration of Science and Islam in Islamic education learning have three main aspects: The conception of science in the reintegration of Science and Islam in learning must be carried out to have one perception and one vision. That is, all knowledge comes from one source, namely Allah SWT. An approach to faith is based on a solid monotheism by combining and explaining signs found in nature (Kauniyah verses) with signs learned in the Qur'an and Hadith (Kauliyah verses). The Material comes from Science and Islam, the Qur'an, and Hadiths. Science as a social science is developed and linked to Islamic Science, the Qur'an, and Hadiths which form the basis of its development.

Abstract

This study explores the role of social media in enhancing English proficiency among students at the Shehu Sule College of Nursing Sciences, Damaturu. Despite the growing use of digital platforms in education, limited research has examined their specific impact on language learning in this context. This study addresses this gap using a quantitative approach by distributing an online questionnaire via college students’ WhatsApp groups. A total of 104 students participated in the study, and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and frequency distribution. Google Docs spreadsheets were used for chart visualization. Findings reveal a gender disparity, with 79.8% of male and 20.2% of female respondents. The frequency of social media usage varied, with 42.3% using it daily, 36.5% several times a week, 18.3% occasionally, and 2.9% infrequently. WhatsApp was the most preferred platform (42.4%), followed by Facebook (20.7%), YouTube and Instagram (17.4% each), and TikTok (2.2%). Key learning activities included watching educational videos (28.0%), following language-learning groups (26.2%), reading posts (20.9%), and language exchanges (14.2%), while podcast listening was less common (10.7%). Students reported improvements in vocabulary (41.4%), grammar (50.0%), and pronunciation (55.7%), with 47.2% experiencing increased motivation. Additionally, 70.2% of respondents support integrating social media into formal education, while 21.2% advocate a cautious approach. The study recommends promoting female engagement, developing tailored learning resources, incorporating emerging platforms, enhancing interactive activities, and formally integrating social media into English curricula. These findings underscore social media’s potential as an effective supplementary tool for language learning.

Abstract

This study seeks to fill a gap in the literature, which has been overly focused on the dichotomy between Islamic law and the state, by offering a new perspective: zakat as a space for convergence and a social laboratory for the creation of inclusive, responsive, and adaptive governance in response to the complexities of Muslim societies in Indonesia and Malaysia. This study employs an exploratory-descriptive qualitative approach, focusing its analysis on legal documents, regulations, religious fatwas, and academic literature discussing zakat management in Indonesia and Malaysia. The results confirm that the convergence of Islamic law and customary law in zakat management in Indonesia and Malaysia is essentially a space for the search for meaning of justice that is never final, where the state, society, and religious authorities continuously negotiate the boundaries of universality and locality in the distribution of welfare for the people. In the dialectic between the egalitarian principles of Sharia and the nuanced kinship practices of customary law, zakat emerges as a social laboratory that tests the legitimacy, inclusiveness, and vitality of the legal system itself. The effectiveness and transparency of zakat governance are not solely determined by the state's courage to innovate or the sophistication of regulations, but by the success of all actors in fostering critical, reflective dialogue, providing genuine space for local community participation, and positioning zakat as an instrument of social liberation that challenges the status quo and opens new pathways to substantive justice.
