Abstract

The formalization movement of Islamic sharia which is currently prevalent in Indonesia has succeeded in taking advantage of the development of the discourse of strengthening local identity in the Regional Autonomy era. One of the successes of this movement is the issuance of various local regulations with nuances of Islamic sharia in various regions in Indonesia. One area that currently shows such a trend is South Kalimantan. In this area, the starting point of the development of the discourse of affirming local identity is the negative impact of global culture that synergizes with the totalitarianism of the construct of the nation state. Therefore, when the distinctive character developed by the Islamism movement is a counter-ideology towards various modernism and secularism, this movement is able to intertwine with local identity affirmation discourse which also develops an resistance to the nation-state construct tend to be totalitarianism in the style of the New Order which is also a product of modernism. As a result, various local regulations on Islamic sharia are discriminatory, sectarian, corruptive, and intolerant of the diversity of national culture.

Abstract

There has been a struggle in the diversity of the Western world, such as: That religion whose adherents have absolute, universal, and transcendental truths was concretely visualized in the Western World in the Middle Ages, even the West in the Middle Ages was known as the century of faith. However, in the modern era, the West, starting with the birth of a religious Renaissance, was challenged, criticized, and at least suspected. Since the renaissance there have been efforts to bring the Western world towards scularism and the separation of the role of religion in the life of empirical reality. The peak of rejection of religion in the west was raised by Nietzie with the statement God Is Death. In the postmodern century, it is nothing more than an image that has no meaning. Even religion has always been used as material for discussion, but in empirical reality and in practical life the existence of religion is considered as something that has no relation and is considered to interfere with human freedom. Postmodernism has a philosophy of anti-absoluteness and certainty, including in relation to religion. Therefore in the Western world there is no certainty in religion.

Abstract

This paper is drawn from a larger study of Banjarese experiences in performing ḥajj or pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. This phenomenological study employed in-depth interviews with about 50 informants in two different areas where Banjarese populations are concentrated, i.e. South Kalimantan and Indragiri Hilir. The theme of the commodification of rituals including ojek ḥajar aswad and badal haji emerged from the comprehensive data analysis. In theory, commodification refers to the practice to turn something into a commodity. In the experiences of some Banjarese pilgrims, commodified rituals have the importance of both spiritual enhancement and social pride, even though these practices sometimes involve cheating and manipulation from the side of the service providers. So, not only do ḥajj rituals provide sacred experiences for the pilgrims, but also an opportunity for some to make profits from them even through unethical or illegal conduct.

Abstract

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of multiculturalism in Early Childhood Education (ECE) as an effort to shape character and inclusive social values among children. With the increasing diversity of cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds in society, multicultural education has become crucial to address potential conflicts and prejudices arising from these differences. Through an educational approach that emphasizes the values of tolerance, democracy, equality, and justice, ECE can serve as a platform for teaching children the importance of respecting diversity. The method used in writing this article is library research, which involves gathering various references from books, journals, and studies related to ECE and multiculturalism. The research also highlights that the ages 0-6 are a golden period for instilling these values, given the rapid psychological and social development of children at this stage. Multicultural education not only focuses on religious and ethnic diversity but also covers social and economic aspects that influence children's experiences. By equipping children with positive understanding and experiences of diversity, it is hoped that they can grow into individuals who are open-minded and able to interact harmoniously in a pluralistic society. Overall, this article emphasizes that the implementation of multicultural education in ECE is not only beneficial for the individual development of children but also contributes to creating a more peaceful and respectful society in the future
