Abstract

Searching for medicinal raw materials derived from the isolation of secondary metabolite compounds is still being carried out to cure a range of illnesses, including infections and degenerative diseases caused by bacteria and free radicals. This research used endophytic fungi extract from the twig of Syzygium malaccense. The diffusion method was used for antibacterial activity and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) was used for antioxidant activity. Chemical compound was identified by using NMR spectroscopic method. This research found 5 isolate of endophytic fungi from twig of S. malaccense (YR1 – YR5). Strong antibacterial and antioxidant activity were showed by YR5. Based on molecular identification, YR5 was Fusarium verticillioides. Pure compound prodeced by endophytic fungi F. verticilloides was naphthalene (3-methoxy-7 methylnaphthalene-1,6-diol). This finding can be used as a basis for drug development.

Abstract

Needs analysis is a systematic process for determining objectives, identifying actual and expected conditions, and prioritizing actions. Needs analysis in the development procedure is carried out to determine the students' assessment of the practicum guide used and the expectations of the practicum guide to be made. The purpose of this study was to analyze student needs for the development of e-modules for microbiology practicum in the biology education study program at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. This type of research is descriptive qualitative, while the instruments used are student questionnaires and interview guidelines for lecturers and laboratory assistants. The results obtained are 55% of students like microbiology courses, 78% of students like practicum methods, low student science process skills, learning microbiology has been with practicum activities, there is already a practicum guide but it is still printed and not model-based, 46% of students like practicum guides with laboratory assistant direction, 57% of difficult material is sensitivity to antimicrobial substances. In conclusion, it is necessary to develop a practicum guidebook based on the guided inquiry model and integrated with technology on the material of sensitivity to antimicrobial substances to improve the science process skills of biology education students at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang.

Abstract

Biology education at the senior high school level has an important role in providing students with an understanding of basic concepts regarding aspects of life, one of which is fungi. Fungi are one of the important topics in biology and have an important role in the ecosystem. The purpose of this study was to determine the needs of schools in creating teaching modules about fungi for grade X that are in accordance with the curriculum. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. The results of the study showed that the curriculum implemented at SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Air Saleh uses the Independent Curriculum, students prefer the way teachers teach using Student Worksheets (LKPD) media, with the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model. Practicum was chosen as a solution to solve problems given by teachers. The conclusion of this study is that schools have implemented the latest curriculum by analyzing student needs and teachers prefer learning using Student Worksheets (LKPD) and solving problems by creating project-based teaching modules.

Abstract

Gambier (Uncaria guanensis) is one of the non-timber forest products that has long been known and widely used by the community. Gambier is used as a tanner to prevent decay, making the skin softer, colored, not stiff and durable. Besides being used as a remedy for stomach pain, ulcers, and throat. The use of gambier is commonly known in eating betel as a mixture of ingredients to enhancer delicious taste. At the time of eating it tastes bitter but then tastes sweet and can nourish the teeth, gums, gums and throat. This study aims to isolate and identify the genus of endophytic fungi in gambier plants. The method used in this study was sampling the root bark of gambier plants. Making media using instant PDA media mixed with aquadest and antibiotics. Isolation of indophytic fungi in gambier plants is carried out by direct planting techniques, identification of endophytic fungi is carried out by microscopic and macroscopic observations. Macroscopic identification is done by observing, colony color, colony texture, shape (concentric or not) whereas microscopic can be done using a microscope. In microscopic observations, the presence or absence of sects in hyphae hyphal development, hyphal color, and conodia are all observed under a microscope using the slide culture method.

Abstract

Gambir (Uncaria guianensis (Hunter) Roxb) is a shrub from the Rubiaceae family which has hard, twisting stems, short-stemmed leaves, light green in color, small white flowers with round cobs. Gambir is already known to have many medicinal benefits. Lots of compounds contained in gambier which are useful as antioxidants. In Indonesia it is used for betel nut besides the betel plant. Another benefit of the gambier plant is as a mixture of medicines for burns, headaches, diarrhea, dysentery, mouthwash, canker sores, and as a skin tanner to prevent decay which makes the skin look softer, more colorful and youthful. This study aims to isolate the types of endophytic fungi found on the bark of the gambier plant and to identify the types of endophytic fungi based on their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. The research method used in this study was a sample of Gambir (U. guianensis) taken from Hamlet V, Tambang Rambang Village, Rambang Kuang Subdistrict, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. The endophytic fungal isolation method used was gambier plant stem bark samples using PDA media. Bark taken from the main stem and branches, exfoliated less than a full circle. The results of this study succeeded in obtaining 5 isolates of endophytic fungi from the bark of gambir (U. guianensis) belonging to 4 different genera, including Trichoderma, Blastomyces, Fusarium, and Alternaria.
