Abstract

This paper seeks to answer the following three main questions. First, why is religious moderation being socialized intensively; second, how religious moderation is understood in the light of Charles Sander Peirce's philosophical pragmatism; and third, what are the implications of Peirce's thinking for the development of religious moderation for Catholic Education Teachers. To answer the questions referred to, the authors use library research. From the results of the analysis found the following answers. First, the socialization of religious moderation is carried out in the midst of the proliferation of chaotic religions, namely ethno-religiocentrism, island mentality, myopic understanding of religion towards humanity, radicalism in the world of education. Second, religious moderation inspired by Peirce's pragmatism refers to the balance between belief, investigation and meaning. Third, the implications of Peirce's pragmatism for the development of religious moderation in Catholic teachers is that the religioucity of Catholic teachers must uphold a balance between belief, investigation and its meanings for social transformation.

Abstract

This writing aims to reveal the concept of religious revivalism, fundamentalism, and the contributions of Jürgen Habermas in addressing the phenomena of religious revivalism on one side and religious fundamentalism on the other. Through a literature review, the author found that the phenomena of religious revivalism and religious fundamentalism are global phenomena. Habermas acknowledges the existence of religious revivalism, and this should be appreciated. However, he also recognizes the tendency towards religious fundamentalism, as evident in the religious behavior of the people in West Flores. In the context of pluralism, such as in the Manggarai, West Flores, religious fundamentalism is unavoidable, but it should not be exclusive. At the core of Habermas's acknowledgment of the use of religious aspirations in the public sphere, he promotes an inclusive fundamentalism. [Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap konsep tentang kebangkitan agama, fundamentalisme dan bagaimana kontribusi pemikiran filsuf dan sosiolog Jürgen Habermas dalam menyikapi fenomena kebangkitan agama di satu pihak dan fundamentalisme agama pada pihak lain. Melalui studi kepustakaan, penulis menemukan bahwa fenomena kebangkitan agama di satu pihak dan fundamentalisme agama pada pihak adalah sebuah fenomena global. Habermas mengakui adanya fenomena kebangkitan agama dan hal ini harus diapresiasi; namun sekaligus mengakui juga tendensi ke arah fundamentalisme agama, seperti juga terbaca pada perilaku keagamaan masyarakat Flores Barat. Dalam konteks pluralitas seperti masyarakat Manggarai, Flores Barat, fundamentalisme agama tak terhindarkan, namun tidak boleh bersifat eksklusif. Di ujung pengakuan Habermas atas penggunaan aspirasi religius dalam ruang publik, Habermas mempromosikan sebuah fundamentalisme inklusif].
