Abstract

This research focuses on the roles of men discussed in the subject research papers on dating violence. Dating violence is one of the phenomena that has been drawing attention to various researchers since 1990s due to the high percentage of dating violence cases in various countries and the negative effects it has caused to the involved parties. The selected research articles were analysed using systematic literature review (SLR) by using PRISMA Diagram. According to the analysis, a discourse may have implications in forming power, which, in turn, may lead to blinding knowledge. This research finds that the dominant discourse exists in most of the selected research papers, where men being positioned as offenders in dating violence incidents. The emergence of the dominant discourse is attributed by the presence of controls on the institutions (publishers). The influence of controls can be seen in the positioning of men portrayed as masculine, dominant, and rough by the majority of the journal editorial boards and authors; such a framing may form the dominant course in that particular type of research. Furthermore, the massive usage of quantitative research in the dating violence topic is seen as further forming a single fact. In essence, the dominant course results in the silent majority, a condition where male victims are reluctant to seek help from police authority or their social community on their violence cases.

Abstract

This research explores how audiences interpret messages about masculine dominance in the portrayal of female superhero characters in the film Captain Marvel, emphasizing its elements of female masculinity. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach within an interpretive paradigm, the study applies Stuart Hall’s reception analysis method focusing on encoding and decoding. Audience interpretations are categorized into three hypothetical positions: dominant-hegemonic, negotiated, and oppositional. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with six informants (three male, three female) selected via purposive sampling to ensure diversity and familiarity with the film. Preliminary interviews were followed by main interviews, during which six scenes were presented for interpretation. The collected data were transcribed, coded, and analyzed to determine the informants' positions. The findings show that audience interpretations of female masculinity in Captain Marvel are shaped by their individual experiences, knowledge, and backgrounds, leading to varied understandings of the film’s messages. These interpretations place informants within one of the three categories, with most audiences accepting the majority of the preferred readings.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to explore the growing trend of outward foreign direct investments (OFDIs) from developing countries to developed countries. Market-seeking and strategic asset explorations are the main motivations for conducting OFDIs in developed countries. Meanwhile, cross-border greenfield investments and cross-border mergers and acquisitions are the main entry strategies used by developing countries when penetrating the developed markets. Finally, this paper reveals mixed results about the explaining ability of John Dunning’s International Development Path (IDP) theory on the patterns of selected developing markets' OFDIs to developed countries. On the one hand, China’s OFDIs follow the paths in the IDP theory. On the other hand, those of India do not confirm so.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has fundamentally changed people's consumption patterns, especially among Generation Z, who live in a fast-paced and connected digital ecosystem. This phenomenon presents significant opportunities and challenges in efforts to encourage more sustainable consumption behavior amidst increasing dependence on technology. In Indonesia, the dynamics of Generation Z's digital consumption demonstrate a shift in values that reflect the need for efficiency, personalization, and social responsibility in daily digital activities. The purpose of this study is to analyze the patterns, challenges, and potential of Generation Z in realizing sustainable digital consumption in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative approach, relying on data obtained from previous research, academic publications, and relevant sources that describe the phenomenon of digital consumption among the younger generation. The collected data were analyzed in depth to identify the relationship between consumption behavior, sustainability awareness, and strategies that can be implemented to strengthen positive change. The results show that Generation Z has high digital awareness but still faces a gap between knowledge and practices of sustainability. The main challenges arise from the dominance of instant consumption culture, digital social pressures, and the lack of systemic support that encourages ethical consumption. Nevertheless, the level of digital literacy, collaborative spirit, and tendency to support socio-environmental values are strong assets for this generation to become agents of change. With educational strategies, sustainable business innovation, and cross-sector collaboration, Generation Z has great potential to become a key driver of transformation towards a more conscious, inclusive, and sustainable digital consumption ecosystem in Indonesia
