Language in a literary work facilitates authors conveying motives in their works. Through language, the authors send messages to the readers. Therefore, a literary discourse analysis with limitless meanings could reveal the author’s motives. This analysis used a semiotic approach which focuses on literacy analysis through language as a symbol. A short story called Godlob by Danarto has a dimension of a communal language that is immediately digestible. But it does not mean that the author’s motives can be easily grasped by the readers. This might happen because the implicit purposes lie within the uncommon language used in this short story. With that, the story contains a logical path that needs to be analyzed which prioritizes language as a symbol with certain meanings. Based on a semiotics approach, Goldlob addresses critical issues relating to a Christian faith -- how Jesus was killed and nailed on the cross was God’s way to cleanse the sin of man. This issue is a way to explain and share the history of Jesus’ death to save the world and becomes the truth and a Christian doctrine. A Christian literacy teaching sustains a Christian faith. BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Bahasa dalam karya sastra merupakan sarana pengarang untuk menyampaikan motif dalam karya-karyanya. Melalui bahasa, pengarang menyampaikan pesan yang ingin disampaikan kepada pembaca. Dengan itu, pengkajian sastra sebagai tanda (sign) yang memiliki kekayaan makna tersebut menjadi penting dilakukan untuk menyingkap maksud pengarang. Analisis ini menggunakan pendekatan semiotika yaitu pendekatan yang memfokuskan analisis sastra melalui bahasa sebagai tanda. Cerita pendek berjudul Godlob karya Danarto memiliki dimensi bahasa komunal yang dapat dicerna sesekemudian mungkin. Namun bukan berarti bahwa maksud pengarang juga sedemikian cepat ditangkap oleh pembaca. Hal itu dimungkinkan karena cerita ini memiliki maksud yang tersirat dengan penggunaan bahasa tak lazim seperti yang tertuang dalam judul cerita pendek ini. Dengan itu, jalinan kisah cerita ini juga mengandung logika yang harus dikaji secara semiotika dengan mengutamakan bahasa sebagai tanda yang memiliki maksud-maksud tertentu. Berdasarkan pendekatan semiotika isi cerpen Godlob mengarahkan kepada pertanyaan kritis pokok iman Kristen yaitu apakah Yesus yang dibunuh dan disalibkan adalah cara Tuhan menebus dosa manusia. Pertanyaan ini menjadi sarana untuk menjelaskan dan mewartakan sebuah sejarah kematian Yesus untuk menyelamatkan dosa manusia yang telah menjadi kebenaran dan dogma Kristen. Pengajaran sastra secara Kristen dapat memperkokoh iman kristiani.

This film as a work of art expresses the creator’s vision about society. The message is expected to be useful and arouse a response from society. The setting of Denias’ film is the interior of Papua and shows the problems encountered by people who live there and has implications for the wider society. To review the usefulness of the work of this film, the author uses a pragmatic approach which focuses on the benefits of artwork in society. The film is also analyzed structurally because artwork is a structure that is formed by the relationships among various elements. Based on the pragmatic study, the artist conveys the benefits for other societies. These benefits are shown by the unyielding spirit by Denias who is finally able to make his dream of an education a reality. All of the challenges of the demographics of the interior of Papua, the mindset of parents, and public figures do not deter him from trying to obtain the best education. His fate is largely influenced by education. That is the main message of the film. It motivates viewers to pay more attention to interior people, especially in Papua which still lags behind the rest of society.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Film Denias adalah sebuah karya seni yang memiliki visi penulis. Dengan visinya, penulis ingin menyampaikan pesan khusus terhadap masyarakat. Pesan ini diharapkan dapat berguna dan membangkitkan respons masyarakat. Film Denias dengan latar belakang masyarakat pedalaman Papua dengan berbagai masalah yang dihadapi memiliki pesan khusus yang penting bagi masyarakat. Untuk meninjau kegunaan karya film ini, penulis menggunakan pendekatan pragmatik. Pendekatan pragmatik adalah sebuah pendekatan karya sastra yang memfokuskan diri pada kegunaan karya seni bagi pembaca / masyarakat. Studi tentang film ini juga menggunakan metode struktural karena karya seni adalah struktur yang dibangun oleh unsur-unsur pembentuknya. Berdasarkan studi pragmatik, penulis memperoleh gambaran manfaat bagi masyarakat. Semangat pantang menyerah ditunjukkan oleh Denias, sehingga dia mampu mewujudkan impiannya untuk mengenyam pendidikan. Semua tantangan bahkan demografis pedalaman Papua, pola pikir dari orang tua, dan tokoh masyarakat tidak menghalangi usahanya untuk mendapatkan pendidikan yang terbaik. Perubahan nasib sangat ditentukan oleh pendidikan. Itulah pesan yang ingin disampaikan penulis. Hal ini membangkitkan semua pihak untuk memberikan respons dalam meningkatkan masyarakat pedalaman, khususnya daerah pedalaman Papua yang masih tertinggal.

Based on observations, the researcher found that letter recognition for K3 students at ABC school Manado in their Bahasa Indonesia lessons was low. Students' understanding of letters had not reached the 75% standard assessment given by the teacher. To overcome the problem, the researcher implemented the use of pictures as a media to increase K3 students’ letter recognition. The method used in this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) using Kemmis and McTaggart model through two cycles. The research was conducted between October 4 and November 3, 2017, using 18 students. The research instruments used to collect the data were the researcher’s observation checklist, the mentor’s observation checklist, another teacher’s observation checklist, students’ worksheets, and an interview with the mentor. Research findings indicated an increase of K3 students’ letter recognition in their Bahasa Indonesia lessons at ABC School Manado with the indicator of achievement of letter recognition reaching 100% and the indicator of letter sound recognition also reaching 100%. The steps of using the drawing media during learning were also consistently performed by showing 100% assessment results through observations by mentors and peers. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of pictures as a media can increase K3 students’ letter recognition in Bahasa Indonesia lessons at ABC School Manado.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRAK: Berdasarkan hasil observasi ditemukan bahwa pengenalan huruf pada siswa K3 pada sekolah swasta di Manado pada mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia masih rendah, yaitu ditunjukkan dengan pemahaman terhadap huruf belum mencapai angka 75% standar penilaian yang diberikan oleh guru. Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah menerapkan penggunaan media gambar untuk meningkatkan pengenalan huruf siswa K3. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK) model Kemmis dan Taggart melalui dua siklus. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada tanggal 4 Oktober sampai dengan 3 November 2017 terhadap 18 siswa di Sekolah ABC Manado. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah lembar observasi ceklispeneliti, lembar ceklismentor, lembar observasi ceklisrekan sejawat, lembar kerja siswa, dan lembar wawancara mentor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan peningkatan pada pengenalan huruf siswa kelas K3-A Sekolah ABC Manado pada mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia dengan pencapaian kriteria indikator mengenal huruf adalah 100%, indikator pengenalan bunyi huruf adalah 100%. Langkah-langkah penggunaan media gambar pada saat pembelajaran juga konsisten dilakukan dengan menunjukkan hasil penilaian 100% melalui observasi dari mentor dan rekan sejawat. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan media gambar dapat meningkatkan pengenalan huruf siswa K3-A di sekolah ABC Manado dalam mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia.

Character education is a major aspect in the learning process, even in all human existence. Generally, superior character will support success so that character becomes the key word in life. That is the main role of character so that the national education goal makes this aspect the main goal in addition to the cognitive and psychomotor aspects. The purpose of this study is to describe the role of religious literature, especially poetry, in growing christian characters. It is realized that literary works have a function in building human life, especially in the aspect of character. The integrated education model contains aspects of character in each field of study or subject. Through subjects or courses, character education is realized. One of the fields of science that includes character education is literature, especially religious literature. Religious literature contains dimensions of life values that can foster character education. This scientific article was developed by exploring the literature as study data. Therefore, this paper is qualitative research. This research is expected to contribute to educational efforts in general in developing Christian character education, particularly through religious literature. By having superior character, students will have integrity, morality, character, and actions that are in harmony with the norms prevailing in society and religious values.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Pendidikan karakter merupakan aspek utama dalam proses pembelajaran, bahkan dalam seluruh kehidupan manusia. Karakter yang unggul akan menunjang kesuksesan secara keseluruhan sehingga karakter menjadi kata kunci dalam kehidupan. Itulah peran utama karakter sehingga tujuan pendidikan nasional menjadikan aspek ini sebagai tujuan utama selain aspek kognitif dan psikomotorik. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan peran sastra religius, khususnya puisi, dalam menumbuhkan karakter kristiani. Disadari bahwa karya sastra memiliki fungsi dalam membangun kehidupan manusia, khususnya dalam aspek karakter. Model pendidikan terpadu memuat aspek karakter dalam setiap bidang studi atau mata pelajaran. Melalui mata pelajaran atau mata kuliah, pendidikan karakter direalisasikan. Salah satu bidang ilmu yang memuat pendidikan karakter adalah sastra, khususnya sastra agama. Sastra religius mengandung dimensi nilai-nilai kehidupan yang dapat menumbuhkan pendidikan karakter. Artikel ilmiah ini dikembangkan dengan melakukan eksplorasi terhadap karya sastra sebagai data kajian. Oleh karena itu, tulisan ini termasuk dalam penelitian kualitatif. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi bagi upaya pendidikan pada umumnya dalam mengembangkan pendidikan karakter Kristen, khususnya melalui sastra religius. Dengan memiliki karakter yang unggul, peserta didik akan memiliki integritas, moralitas, budi pekerti, dan tindakan yang selaras dengan norma-norma yang berlaku di masyarakat dan nilai-nilai agama.

Modern Indonesian literary works have various themes which are the writer's vision. One of the themes offered by the author is how humans relate to God. In the journey of modern Indonesian literature that stretches from Balai Pustaka to the present, it is a very prominent theme of God. God in Modern Indonesian literature is known as God in the general sense and God in the sense of what is known as Christianity as Jesus Christ. The aim of this research is to find a way to get Christ in Modern Indonesian Literature. The object of research is poetry and prose. These poems include Amir Amir Hamzah’s “Padamu Jua,” Chairil Anwar’s “Isa,” “Balada Penyaliban” by W.S. Rendra, Sutardji Calzoum Bachri’s “Kucing,” Djoko Damono’s “Aku Ingin,” and “Saman” by Ayu Utami. The method used in this study is a structural semiotic method that uses qualitative. The Semiotic Structural Method examines Language as a sign structure that has meaning. Qualitative recommendations are discussions that focus on the study of data containing words or sentences. It can be concluded that the works which are the object of this study have aspects of God that are both in general view and those who believe in Jesus Christ.

The realization of character education is a shared responsibility of both parents and educational institutions. Higher education as an integral educational facility has a responsibility to develop aspects of character. This is because character is an important domain in forming a student's personality as a whole. In this way, students can grow cognitively, affectively and psychometrically. The Faculty of Education, Pelita Harapan University has a profile of students who are competent, have character, have a calling as Christian teachers (Calling), and have compassion (compassion). To realize this profile, it must be supported by the professionalism of lecturers with the characteristics of having a loving spirit like the good Samaritan and a spirit of self-emptying of Christ in serving. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between lecturer professionalism and student Christian character. The results of this research will provide an overview, evaluation, and input to build Christian character in a sustainable manner. The method used in this research is a correlative quantitative method. The research results show that lecturer professionalism is significantly related to students' Christian character. The research results show that there is a correlation between lecturer professionalism and student Christian character of .537. Thus, it can be concluded that the correlation between lecturer professionalism and student Christian character is in the strong category. The test results show the significance value (p = .000) is smaller than 0.05. This means that there is not enough evidence to accept the proposed hypothesis (reject Ho). Thus, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between lecturer professionalism and student Christian character.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Perwujudan pendidikan karakter merupakan tanggung jawab bersama antara orang tua dan institusi pendidikan. Perguruan tinggi sebagai salah satu sarana pendidikan yang tidak terpisahkan memiliki tanggung jawab untuk mengembangkan aspek karakter. Hal ini dikarenakan karakter merupakan domain penting dalam membentuk kepribadian mahasiswa secara utuh. Dengan demikian, mahasiswa dapat berkembang secara kognitif, afektif dan psikomotorik. Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan Universitas Pelita Harapan memiliki profil mahasiswa yang kompeten, berkarakter, memiliki panggilan sebagai guru Kristen (Calling), dan memiliki belas kasih (compassion). Untuk mewujudkan profil tersebut, harus didukung oleh profesionalisme dosen dengan ciri-ciri memiliki semangat mengasihi seperti orang Samaria yang baik hati dan semangat mengosongkan diri seperti Kristus dalam melayani. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian ini akan memberikan gambaran, evaluasi dan masukan untuk membangun karakter kristiani secara berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif korelasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa profesionalisme dosen berhubungan secara signifikan dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat korelasi antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa sebesar 0,537. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa korelasi antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter Kristen mahasiswa berada pada kategori kuat Hasil uji t menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (p=.000) lebih kecil dari 0.05. Hal ini berarti tidak terdapat cukup bukti untuk menerima hipotesis yang diajukan (tolak Ho). Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa.

It is undeniable that some philosophical sciences greatly influence Christian education today. In some universities, philosophy is combined with Christian theology and even produces scholars of philosophy of theology. Methods and philosophies of thinking in philosophy are often applied in scientific studies of Christian education today to find an objective truth. In this study, the researcher examines the implications of the thought of a famous modern philosopher, namely George W. F Hegel, on Christian education. Researchers find both in the study of literature that there are several contributions of Hegel's philosophy that have an impact on Christian education today. The religious philosophy of objectivity and subjectivity, the philosophy of process, the philosophy of dialectics, some of Hegel's philosophies found by researchers, have contributed greatly to Christian education today. The philosophies above can be applied by students in teaching education. For example, the implications of dialectical philosophy (thesis, antithesis, and synthesis) on teaching methods of Christian education. These methods and philosophies are often used by Christian education students to teach their students and often create questions and discussions by their students.

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui hubungan antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian ini akan memberikan gambaran, evaluasi dan masukan untuk membangun karakter kristiani secara berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kuantitatif korelasional. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa profesionalisme dosen berhubungan secara signifikan dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat korelasi antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa sebesar 0,537. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa korelasi antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter Kristen mahasiswa berada pada kategori kuat Hasil uji t menunjukkan nilai signifikansi (p=.000) lebih kecil dari 0.05. Hal ini berarti tidak terdapat cukup bukti untuk menerima hipotesis yang diajukan (tolak Ho). Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ada hubungan yang signifikan antara profesionalisme dosen dengan karakter kristiani mahasiswa.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN DORMITORY LIFESTYLE AND CHRISTIAN CHARACTER AMONG COLLEGE STUDENTS: A Correlation Study at the Faculty of Education, Pelita Harapan University Abednego Tri Gumono; Year Rezeki Patricia Tantu

In fostering Christian character, the Faculty of Education at Pelita Harapan University has established a dormitory system for students. Through this residential living arrangement, the Faculty of Education aims to produce graduates with a holistic profile, encompassing teaching competence, faith, and character. According to the results of a tracer study on student character in 2015, 60% of students fell into the “good” category, while in 2020, this figure rose to 61%. These data indicate that character development, particularly Christian character, remains an area that requires continuous improvement. This study aims to investigate the relationship between the dormitory lifestyle and the formation of Christian character among students. Christian character is measured across the dimensions of love, kindness, goodness, and gentleness. The boarding school lifestyle was measured in terms of spirituality, discipline, and social life. The research method used was a quantitative correlation method. The strength of the relationship was measured using the Morgan scale. The results showed a correlation coefficient for the dormitory lifestyle of 0.473 (moderate relationship) with a coefficient of determination/r² value of 0.2237 (22%). Thus, the dormitory lifestyle variable (independent variable) accounts for 22% of the variation in the formation of students’ Christian character (dependent variable). This moderate correlation between dormitory living patterns and Christian character indicates that the formation of Christian character is also influenced by other factors such as faculty members, the implementation of the Christian curriculum, and peers. Interviews conducted with 15 students revealed that 13 (86%) stated that faculty members have served as role models in character by behaving fairly, firmly, and appropriately time, and consistency. The integration of the Christian curriculum has been consistently implemented across curriculum subjects. Peers influence positive motivation in students’ completion of academic assignments and committee work. The next data point shows that 2 (14%) students stated that faculty members are already quite good at serving as role models of character and integrating the Christian curriculum, although this does not yet apply to all faculty members. The recommendation from this study is that Christian character development should be carried out in an integrated manner involving faculty professionalism, the implementation of a Christian curriculum, the student affairs department, the counseling department, and the dormitory management department/ Mission Youth for Christ.
