Abstract

This study aimed to know the implementation of higher order thinking skills on students’ reading comprehension at SMA Negeri 18 Makassar. This research focused on pre-experimental research with one group pre-test post-test. The population of this research was class XI students of SMA Negeri 18 Makassar in the academic year 2021/2022. Purposive sampling techniques were used to took one class as the research sample, totaling 26 students. The data was obtained in the form of multiple choices of the reading test. After analyzing data, the writer concluded that the implementation of HOTS in reading comprehension can improve students’ reading comprehension. This evidenced by the average score of students during the pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the students in the pre-test (before the action) was 36.53 and the post-test (after the action) was 68.07. These data indicated that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test. Based on the data from the analysis, it can be concluded that the implementation of higher-order thinking skills can improve students' reading comprehension in class XI Social 4 SMA Negeri 18 Makassar.

Abstract

This study aimed to know whether the use of Recorded CNN News as Learning Media can or not increase Students’ Listening Skill at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 18 Makassar. This study used a pre-experimental research method in one class pre-test and post-test. The population of this research was the eleventh-grade students of SMAN 18 Makassar in the 2021/2022 academic year. The samples was numbered 20 students from class XI IPS 1. The data were obtained from the listening test. The results of the study using inferential analysis of t-test by SPSS v.16 application. After analyzing data, the writer concluded that using of Recorded CNN News as learning media can increase students’ listening skill. It can be proved by the average score based on students’ pre-test and post-test. The mean score of the students’ listening increased from 39.90 in pre-test to 83.30 in the post-test. This fact shows that the hypothesis H₁ is accepted and of course the hypothesis H₀ is rejected. It’s mean that Recorded CNN News can increase students’ listening skill at eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 18 Makassar.

Abstract

This study aimed to find out the improvement of the students speaking skill through implementation dubbing video technique at SMPN 35 Makassar academic year 2020/2021. This study used pre-experimental design with pre-test, treatment, post-test and data analyzed. The data was collected and analyzed from several recording voice from the students in the English classroom. The population of this research was second grade from class VIII.2 which consist 20 students as a sample. This study indicated the result of the used of voice notes and dubbing video short animation movie to improve students’ speaking skills by data analyzed from accuracy and fluency. And the result indicated mean score in pre-test was 56.15 and mean score in post-test was 87.45, it means that was influenced the improvement of students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This writing aims to analysis the difference between students’ ability in writing recount text and descriptive text at SMAN 18 Makassar (comparative analysis). The population of this writing was the tenth-grade students of SMAN 18 Makassar at the first semester 2021/2022 academic year. The writer took 270 students as population. The data were obtained from the writing text. The writer choose of class X IPA 3 and the writer took 30 students as a sample. The results of the writing used inferential analysis of t-test by SPSS v.16. It showed that there was a significant difference in the students’ mean score writing ability between recount text and descriptive text. The mean score of the students’ writing test recount text is 82.20 while descriptive text is 76.43. The significance value calculated 0.014 is smaller than 0.05 (P-value = 0.014 < 0.05). Therefore, the hypothesis of these writing was accepted. It means that, there were a Comparative difference of Students’ Writing Ability Between Recount Text and Descriptive Text at SMAN 18 Makassar. The writer concluded, that the students are easier to express ideas, understanding, composed and write a recount text than descriptive text. Based the results above, the writer can difference between students’ ability in writing recount text and descriptive text at SMAN 18 Makassar (comparative analysis).

Abstract

The objective to find out the effect of using context clues in in enhancing students vocabulary building through reading text at SMPN 52 Makassar.The writer used instrument; it is a reading and vocabulary test that given (pre-test and post-test). The pre-test was used to find out data about the recognition and understanding of students’ vocabulary before implementing the context clues strategy and the post-test was carried out to find out data about the introduction and understanding of students' vocabulary after implementing the context clues strategy. The method used in this study is a pre-experiment using one class. The population in this study were all students of class VIII-DSMPN 52 Makassar, totally 28 students, so the writer took a purposive sampling technique. In addition, to analyse the data, writer used SPSS 21. The results showed that the increase in students' vocabulary recognition increased on all indicators of word recognition, such as identifying clues in multiple choice (69.23% progress) and finding word meanings (43.02% progress). The results of this study finally showed that the students' vocabulary understanding was 53.00 for their pre-test and 81.64 for their post-test. This fact shows that the students’ score in the post-test is higher than the pre-test score. It can be concluded that vocabulary learning with the context clues strategy was effective in improving vocabulary VIII-D SMPN 52 Makassar.

Abstract

This study aimed to know the effect of the flipped classroom model on students' writing skill in class XI SMA Negeri 18 Makassar. This study focused on pre-experimental research one group pre-test and post-test. The population in this study were students of class XI SMAN 18 Makassar. The writer took 270 students as the population. A random sampling technique was used to take one class as the research sample, totaling 30 students. Data obtained from writing test. The results of this study used inferential analysis of the t-test by SPSS v.16, which showed a significant effect on the students’ mean score writing skill between the pretest and post-test. The mean score of the students’ writing enhanced from 52.33 in the pretest to 82.03 in the posttest. The significance value calculated 0.000 is smaller than 0.05 (P-value = 0.000 < 0.05). Thus, it can be concluded that the flipped classroom model is effect applied to students’ writing skill in class XI at SMA Negeri 18 Makassar.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine to enchance the students’ ability in writing narrative text through blended learning of class Xl-5 students of SMAN 4 Makassar in writing narrative texts using the blended learning method. This study used a pre-experimental method. The Subject of this study were students of class Xl-5 at SMAN 4 Makassars emester in the academic year 2022/2023, with a sample of 34 students. Data collection was narrative text through offline and online. The research data collected through the test showed that the student's writing ability after the research was conducted, students were more interested in using the blended learning method in writing narrative texts. Based on the results of the data analysis, it can be seen that the student's results in the offline pre-test were 49.03. Then after getting treatment, the students' pre-test scores increased to 79.47 in the post-test. While the students' results in the online pre-test were 52.18, and after getting treatment, the students' pre-test scoreincreased to 89.15 in the post-test. It can be concluded that students' writing skills are improved in the online learning.So it can be concluded that using the blended learning method can improve students' learning ability in writing narrative texts at SMAN 4 Makassar.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the implementation of the English day program in students' speaking skill. This research method is, applied a qualitative research, data were collected from observations, interviews, and documentation. The sample of this research is the students of class XI SMAN 18 Makassar who follow the English Club. the writer uses interview guidelines. The results of this study indicated that the English day program can improve students' speaking skills. However, the implementation of English day at SMAN 18 Makassar has not been carried out well because: some students still use Indonesian during English day, and some students are not confident to speak English with friends around them. It is recommended that the person in charge of the English Club can implement the English day program in the school environment, and tighten the applicable rules, because English day is an important program for international schools. Key words: implementation, English day, program, speaking, skill.
