Abstract

Background: Balanced nutrition for mothers during breastfeeding is closely related to breast milk production, puerperal recovery, and other influences on the sustainability of the puerperal or breastfeeding mother. The thing that needs to concern is that if the nutrition for breastfeeding mothers is not met, the nutritional needs for breast milk production will be taken from the mothers’ body reserves. This condition will cause the mother to experience the risk of disease and chronic malnutrition. This study aims to develop the "Segi Busui" Booklet media and to determine the effectiveness of the "Segi Busui" booklet media toward knowledge and attitude concerning balanced nutrition in breastfeeding mothers of 0-6 months babies. Subjects and Method: The method used in the study was Research and Development (RnD) using the Borg and Gall model. The type of study used to determine the effectiveness was pre-experimental with one group pretest-posttest design. The sample in this study was 48 breastfeeding mothers of 0-6 months babies. The dependent variables were knowledge and attitudes. The independent variable was the booklet “Segi Busui". The data were collected using questionnaires. The analysis technique used was the Wilcoxon test. Results: The average score of maternal knowledge increased after (Mean= 19.65; SD= 0.93) the "Segi Busui" booklet intervention compared to before the intervention (Mean= 13.06; SD= 1.74), and the result was statistically significant (p<0.001). Meanwhile, the maternal attitude score increased after (Mean= 66.71; SD= 3.48) the "Segi Busui" booklet intervention compared to before the intervention (Mean= 53.60; SD= 5.93), and the result was statistically significant (p<0.001) Conclusion: The “Segi Busui" booklet media is effective in increasing knowledge and attitudes concerning balanced nutrition in breastfeeding mothers of 0-6 months babies. Keywords: booklet media, knowledge, attitude, balanced nutrition of breastfeeding mothers. Correspondence: Mey Linda Darmayanti. Master’s Program in Public Health, Universitas Negeri Semarang. Jl. Abstract

Hypertension, a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease, poses a significant health challenge, particularly among the elderly. The "GAME BUSRI" intervention, promoting celery leaf consumption, offers a promising complementary therapy for blood pressure management. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of this community-based intervention in reducing blood pressure among hypertensive elderly individuals in Purwakarta, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest control group design was employed. Participants were recruited from the community and assigned to either the intervention group (receiving daily celery leaf decoction and health education) or the control group (receiving health education only). Blood pressure measurements were taken at baseline and after the 8-week intervention period. Data were analyzed using appropriate statistical tests. The intervention group demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to the control group. The mean reduction in systolic blood pressure was 11.33 mmHg (p < 0.001), and the mean reduction in diastolic blood pressure was 8.67 mmHg (p < 0.001). No adverse events were reported. The "GAME BUSRI" intervention effectively reduced blood pressure in hypertensive elderly individuals. This community-based approach, utilizing a readily available and culturally acceptable resource, holds promise for improving hypertension management and reducing cardiovascular risk in this population.

Abstract

Low appetite in toddlers is a common problem that can hinder growth and development. Complementary therapy from traditional Chinese medicine, particularly Tuina massage, is increasingly used and is believed to stimulate gastrointestinal function and improve appetite. This study aimed to determine the effect of Tuina massage on increasing toddlers’ appetite at Posyandu Kampung Sukamulya II, Ciseureuh Village. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest two-group design was applied with total sampling (n=40): 20 toddlers in the intervention group and 20 in the control group. Caregiver-reported appetite was measured using a standardized scale; data were analyzed with paired and between-group tests at α = 0.05. In the intervention group, mean appetite scores improved from 2.90 at pre-test to 1.15 at post-test (p = 0.000), indicating better appetite (lower scores reflect improvement). The control group showed no change (pre-test 2.90; post-test 2.90; p = 1.000). The between-group comparison after the intervention was significant (p = 0.007), confirming the effect of Tuina massage on appetite. In conclusion, Tuina massage effectively improves toddlers’ appetite and can be considered a simple, safe, and low-cost adjunct within community nutrition programs. Implementation at the posyandu level should be accompanied by training for cadres and parents and integrated with feeding counseling; future controlled studies with larger samples and longer follow-up are recommended to strengthen generalizability.
