Abstract

Abstract. This study scrutinizes the policy of the Independent Learning of the Independent Campus (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka - MBKM) by Ministry of Education and Culture of Republic of Indonesia which tends to serve the global market. The aim is to understand the power relations between ideologies and national elites' interests that are intertwined behind the MBKM policy which allegedly accommodates the interests of neoliberalism and global capitalism. This research used the qualitative method (normative research). The data are collected in two ways: firstly, collecting the education policy of the Indonesian government, especially the MBKM regulation, and other sources that are relevant to the research topic; secondly, deep interviews with education experts and intellectuals who concern with this topic. By using a critical perspective, this study concludes that the basic assumption of the MBKM policy is how that Indonesian higher education can accommodate and be relevant to the global market. Instead of universities in Indonesia playing a role to build the national citizens' character, universities through the MBKM policy are present as an instrument of the market and industries. The implication is that academic development in higher education in the future will only focus on developing applied science disciplines and mechanical skills of human beings, not on developing souls and though Indonesian citizens. Keywords: MBKM, Capitalism, Neoliberalism

Abstract

Abstract

This research examines the relationship between Islam as a world religion and Patuntung as a traditional religion adhered to by the Ammatoa indigenous community in Kajang, South Sulawesi. The relationship between these two religions is not only oppositional or harmonious but also dynamic and negotiating. This research uses a qualitative method with a 'New Ethnography' approach, which pays attention to three aspects: self-reflection, polyvocality, and testimony. The findings of this research show that the meeting between Islam and Patuntung produces a hybrid reality, namely Sallang, which is basically a different Islam and another Patuntung. Sallang is a new reality that emerged from the meeting between Islam and Patuntung. This is clearly seen from Ammatoa's belief that the Koran is 40 juz, 10 juz revealed in Kajang, and 30 juz revealed in Mecca. This research provides a new contribution to the study of the relationship between world religions and indigenous religions, especially in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines the roles of three key figures in the spread of Islam in South Sulawesi, namely Datuk Ri Bandang, Datuk Ri Panggentungan, and Syekh Yusuf, as well as the perspectives of pilgrims and tomb guardians in preserving historical and spiritual values. These figures significantly contributed to the Islamization of South Sulawesi, bringing substantial changes to the social and cultural structures of the local communities. The motivations of pilgrims visiting these tombs include respect for historical values, spiritual beliefs, and seeking blessings. Tomb guardians play a crucial role not only in maintaining the physical condition of the tombs but also in safeguarding Islamic teachings in alignment with local values. This study highlights the importance of preserving these historical sites as cultural heritage and religious tourism destinations, as well as the need to educate the public about proper pilgrimage practices according to Islamic teachings. The findings of this study contribute to the efforts of preserving spiritual values and developing culture-based tourism in South Sulawesi.

Abstract

The knowledge integration is an effort to dialogue science (secular) and religion (Islam). This effort also is the basis for the institutional change of Islamic higher education from the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) to the State Islamic University (UIN). This study specifically critically examines the implementation of integration of knowledge at UIN Alauddin in the time interval 2015-2023 - two periods of the Rector's leadership, namely 2015-2019 and 2019-2023. The aim is to see the development of the face of integration of knowledge on a campus that claims to be a campus of civilization. Because this is a compass that covers all production of science. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method. Data was collected using observation, in-depth interviews, and document searches, and then analyzed descriptively. This research is shown by the decreasing number of research allocations on this theme from year to year. In 2018 and 2019 the number of integration research was 40 titles, while in 2022 and 2023 there were only 19 titles. This reality in turn has implications for the passion for the transformation of knowledge integration in the field of education and teaching. In short, the implementation of knowledge integration at UIN Alauddin tends to be procedural-symbolic.

Abstract

Digital technological development has had a significant impact on various aspects of life, including in the realm of spirituality and religious experience. Algorithms, as the core of modern digital systems, now play a central role in shaping the way individuals access, understand, and express spiritual values. More than just technical devices, algorithms function as cultural mechanisms that actively construct and represent religious subjects according to platform logic and market interests. This article aims to analyze how religious subjects are constructed and determined by algorithmic logic using philosophy of existentialism as approach. The focus of the discussion includes the crisis of authenticity, the commodification of religiosity, and the emergence of the possibility of ethical resistance to algorithmic determination. In this context, digital space often traps spirituality in a shallow and easily consumed format, obscuring the depth of authentic religious meaning. However, this study also reveals that there is still potential for religious subjects to reclaim the space of reflection and spiritual meaning through conscious and ethical actions. Thus, digital space can be read not only as a field of technological domination, but also as an arena for contestation of meaning and spiritual liberation that allows for a more authentic religious subjectivity Perkembangan teknologi digital telah membawa dampak signifikan terhadap berbagai aspek kehidupan, termasuk dalam ranah spiritualitas dan pengalaman religius.
