Abstract

Learning poetry serves a variety of purposes, including fostering fluency in spoken language, exposing students to a variety of teaching methods, exposing students to issues of global significance, and fostering an appreciation for different cultures. The purpose of this study is to identify effective strategies for helping high school students learn poetry using a case-method method. The research is a qualitative study. The data analysis procedure used in this study is an objective hermeneutic model which is divided into two analytical procedural models, namely (1) serial analysis and (2) detailed analysis.  The participants were senior high school students from a private Palu high school in the 2022–2023 school year. For this study, thirty youngsters are taking part.  First, students have trouble creating poetry, and second, they have trouble understanding poetry, both of which are significant issues in our research. The study's findings include (1) a case method model that helps students overcome their challenges with poetry writing, and (2) a case method model that helps students overcome their issues with poetry reading. Based on these results, it was determined that using a case method model to address the poetry-learning needs of students in class XI of senior high schools is highly effective in preparing them to produce poetry that adheres to established quality standards. Using proper poetry reading strategies, students are also adept at reading poetry accurately and appropriately.

Abstract

Literature and poetry play a crucial role in education by fostering students' sensitivity and reasoning towards literary works. This study aims to explore and describe practical approaches for teaching poetry using the environmental case method to students at SMA Negeri 1 Palu. This is a qualitative study, with data collected from class XI students during the 2022/2023 academic year through discussions and activities involving the case method. The descriptive qualitative method was employed to address two primary challenges: (1) students' difficulty in writing poetry and (2) students' difficulty in reading poetry. The findings reveal practical strategies to overcome these challenges by integrating environmental cases into the case method model. Specifically, this method helps students improve their poetry writing and reading skills by contextualizing poetry within real-world environmental issues. The implications of this research suggest that employing the environmental case method can enhance poetry teaching strategies broadly, making poetry more accessible and engaging for students. By applying this method, students can develop their poetry writing and reading abilities, thereby enriching their overall literary experience and appreciation.

Abstract

Code-Switching and Code-Mixing in Denny Sumargo and Serly Tjoanda's YouTube Podcast Titled "Boat Burns, Husband Dies" Sociolinguistic Study   ABSTRACT: This study aims to describe the form, function, and factors that cause code switching and code mixing in the podcast Curhat Bang Denny Sumargo entitled "Burning Ship of Dead Husband" which features Serly Tjoanda as a resource person. The phenomenon of using two or more languages in digital media such as podcasts shows the social and psychological dynamics of speakers in the context of modern communication. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with the main data source in the form of speech in a podcast video uploaded on the Curhat Bang Denny Sumargo YouTube channel on December 24, 2024. Data was collected through the technique of watching and taking notes, then analyzed using the Miles, Huberman interactive analysis model which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The results of the study show that the code switching that appears in this podcast is only found to be one type of code switching, namely external code switching, while code mixing includes the form of words, phrases, and clauses. This phenomenon occurs due to various factors, including the social background of the speaker, the context of the conversation, the communication situation, and the influence of global culture. The use of code switching and code mixing in this podcast serves to affirm meaning, strengthen emotional expression, build social closeness, and show the identity and communication style of the speaker. These findings show that the use of code switching and code mixing in digital media is not just a linguistic phenomenon, but also a communication strategy that reflects the social and cultural dynamics of bilingual society in the digital age.. Abstract

Indonesia possesses a rich tradition of oral literature that reflects local culture and indigenous wisdom, with regional languages serving as inherited cultural identities across generations. One of these traditions is the Kaili oral literature in the Ledo dialect, which is actively preserved in Dolo District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. This study aims to examine the forms and ecological meanings of Kaili oral literature, both narrative and non-narrative, and to document its role in preserving local cultural and environmental knowledge. Using a literary ecology approach, this study analyzes the relationship between culture and environment as represented in oral traditions, focusing on how human interactions with nature, social life, and spiritual beliefs are encoded in oral expressions. The data were analyzed qualitatively to identify linguistic forms, symbolic meanings, and ecological values embedded in legends, myths, customary expressions, poems, and folk songs. The findings show that Kaili oral literature comprises narrative forms (legends and myths) and non-narrative forms (customary expressions, poetry, and folk songs), all of which embody ecological values such as environmental ethics, respect for nature, social harmony, and spiritual balance. Narrative texts emphasize human–nature–spiritual relationships through symbolic events, while non-narrative texts function as moral guidance, social regulation, and ecological awareness in daily life. Kaili oral literature serves not only as cultural heritage but also as a medium of ecological education that reinforces the interconnectedness between humans and the environment.
