Abstract

This study aims to improve the naturalist intelligence of children through planting activities in BAMBIM Al-Abror mangkubumi district Tasikmalaya City. Naturalist intelligence can be enhanced by various activities that are directly related to nature, or introducing objects that would stimulate the child's naturalist intelligence. This research is a Classroom Action Research. The subjects of this study were 11 children in BAMBIM Al-Abror, with a total of 7 girls and 4 boys. This study consists of 3 cycles. The results of this study indicate an increase in the naturalist intelligence of children in BAMBIM Al-Abror by using planting activities, the end result of child’s naturalist intelligence in BAMBIM Al-Abror as the first indicator shows the pleasure of the plant has a significant increase with the final ability of 9.09% on the criteria begin to develop, 45.45% on the criteria developed as expected, and 45.45% on the criteria developed very well. The second indicator that is to distinguish the parts of the plant gets an improvement with the final ability of 18.18% on the criteria begin to develop, 45.45% on the criteria devolved as expected and 36.365 on the criteria develop very well. The third indicator of ability to look after the plants has increased with the final ability of 9.09% on the criteria begin to develop, 54.54% on the criteria developed as expected and 36.36% on the criteria develop very well. The fourth indicator of planting activities also increases with the final ability of 9.09% on the criteria developed as expected and 72.72% on the criteria developed very well. Abstract

Leaf area data is required to measure leaf area index and net assimilation. Several existing leaf area measurement methods have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, developing a method that can address some of these shortcomings is necessary. This research aims to analyze the accuracy and feasibility of leaf area measurement methods using object tuntun and digital image processing. The research method used is to compare leaf area measurement techniques using the leaf constant method, leaf area meter, and method of measuring leaf area with the help of digital image processing-based objects tuntun. Data analysis uses R2, RMSE, NRMSE, NSE, and d. The results showed that the leaf area measurement method using digital image processing-based object tuntun assistance is excellent and accurate, and the results have a robust and linear correlation with leaf area measurements using the leaf constant method and leaf area meter. Therefore, the method of measuring leaf area using the help of digital image processing-based objects tuntun is very feasible to be developed and applied to become one of the methods of calculating leaf area that is accurate, fast, and for various leaf sizes and various types of plants.

Abstract

Background: As temporary residents, international students in Indonesia frequently engage in everyday intercultural interactions with local communities. These interactions not only shape their intercultural communication competence (ICC) but also position them as informal ambassadors who can promote Indonesian culture and tourism through their daily experiences and digital narratives. Building on the concept of ICC proposed by Brian H. Spitzberg, this study explores how intercultural engagement among international students contributes to the informal promotion of Indonesian tourism. Purpose: This research aims to examine how international students construct and develop their ICC through engagement with Indonesian culture and how these experiences indirectly promote Indonesian tourism, particularly through social media practices. Methods: The study employs a phenomenological approach to understand the lived experiences of 13 international students from Thailand, the Philippines, Tajikistan, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, the Gambia, and Cambodia who are studying in Indonesia. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and analysis of the students’ social media content, including posts, images, and narratives that reflect their cultural interactions and communication practices. The analysis focuses on how experiential cultural learning and relational cultural negotiation shape their intercultural communication processes. Results: The results reveal that international students develop ICC through continuous adaptation to their social environment. They adjust their verbal and nonverbal communication styles to align with local cultural expectations and audience preferences. Through social media storytelling and visual documentation, they share experiences of Indonesian culture, traditions, and tourist destinations, thereby promoting Indonesian tourism informally to their global networks. However, challenges remain in linguistic adaptation, particularly in mastering Indonesian and local languages such as Javanese. Conclusions: Intercultural engagement enables international students to develop their ICC. This study extends Spitzberg’s ICC framework by highlighting international students’ role as informal tourism promoters. Implications: This research suggests collaborative initiatives among universities, government tourism authorities, and private tourism stakeholders to strategically involve international students in broader tourism promotion programs.
