Abstract

Abstract

Red lettuce can be planted hydroponically with the need of nutrient organic. This study aimed to examine the effect of substituting 25% of AB Mix nutrients with liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) made from water hyacinth or banana peels on the growth and yield of red lettuce cultivated using the NFT hydroponic system. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments (100% AB Mix, 75% AB Mix + 25% water hyacinth LOF, and 75% AB Mix + 25% banana peels LOF) and six replications, each consisting of six plants. Growth parameters (plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, and leaf width) were observed weekly from 3 to 6 weeks after transplanting (WAT), while fresh and dry weights of shoots, leaves, and stems were measured at harvest (6 WAT). The obtained data were tested for homogeneity of variance using Bartlett's test, followed by analysis of variance and Least Significant Difference (LSD) test at 5% significance level when assumptions were fulfilled. The results showed that 75% AB Mix + 25% water hyacinth LOF were not significantly different from 100% AB Mix in terms of leaf number, stem fresh weight, as well as shoot, leaf, and stem dry weights, with shoot fresh weight reaching 92% and leaf fresh weight reaching 93% compared to 100% AB Mix. The treatment of 75% AB Mix + 25% banana peels LOF was able to match the growth and yield of the 100% AB Mix treatment.

Abstract

Mustard greens (Brassica juncea L.) is a popular vegetable among the people because of its delicious taste and high content of carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A, B, C, E, and K which are beneficial for body health. The demand for mustard greens is always increasing along with the increasing population and awareness of nutritional needs. The area of mustard greens in Lampung in 2019 was 1,329 ha and shrank to 1,288 ha in 2020, therefore, a solution is needed to help farmers who have lost agricultural land, namely with the NFT hydroponic planting pattern using AB Mix Nutrients and Liquid Organic Fertilizers from vermicompost and rabbit urine extracts. This study was conducted to obtain the best combination of concentrations between AB Mix, vermicompost, and rabbit urine for the growth and yield of mustard greens with the NFT hydroponic system. This study was conducted from June to July 2024 in Sepang Jaya City, Labuhan Ratu District, Bandar Lampung City. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a single factor consisting of 4 treatments 100% AB-mix (control), AB-mix 75% + vermicompost extract 25%, AB-mix 75% + vermicompost extract 15% + rabbit urine 10%, and AB-mix 50% + vermicompost extract 30% + rabbit urine 20%. The research data were analyzed using analysis of variance and homogeneity test using the Bartlett test and the Least Significant Difference (LSD) at the 5% level. The results showed that the treatment of AB mix 75% + vermicompost extract 15% + rabbit urine 10% was the best combination in supporting the growth and yield of mustard plants on plant height, leaf stalk length, number of stomata, fresh weight of the canopy, number of leaves, dry weight of leaves, leaf greenness level, root length, fresh weight of roots and dry weight of roots.

Abstract

The amount of agricultural land in Bandar Lampung City has decreased by around 40.15%, from 10,435.44 ha to 6,244.62 ha. Hydroponic cultivation is one of the urban farming programs that is widely known by the public because of the very limited characteristics of urban land. Utilization of waste into liquid organic fertilizer offers a sustainable solution to the problem of agricultural waste and can minimize waste volume and reduce air pollution. The use of LOF is one of the innovations to reduce production costs because by reducing the cost of purchasing production inputs, farmers' potential profit margins can increase. Furthermore, utilizing local raw materials for POC production can also improve distribution cost efficiency and strengthen farmers' independence in managing their agricultural businesses. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with a total of 4 nutrient treatments. There were 6 replications with 24 experimental units. The findings of this research suggest that treatment P4 demonstrates the most effective results, namely 75% AB mix + 25 LOF pineapple peel and coconut husk. The use of 25% liquid organic fertilizer pineapple peel and/or coconut husk with 75% AB mix has results that are not significantly different or can match the treatment of 100% AB mix nutrients. The results of the percentage comparison of the wet weight of the kale plant canopy between the substitution of 25% LOF pineapple peel and/or coconut husk with 100% AB mix treatment, namely 75% AB mix + 25% LOF pineapple peel and coconut husk (102,3%), treatment 75% AB mix + 25% LOF coconut husk (99,7%), treatment 75% AB mix + 25% LOF pineapple peel (79,9%).
