Abstract

Strengthening disciplinary character education through disciplinary development is an inseparable part of Islamic boarding schools. As traditional Islamic educational institutions, Islamic boarding schools have broader goals than simply transmitting religious knowledge. One of the main goals of Islamic boarding schools is to form an Islamic character in students. Discipline is a means of creating attitudes and behaviors that are contrary to the teachings of the Islamic religion, including obedience, patience, and responsibility. This research aims to find and explain discipline development activities in strengthening character education in Islamic boarding schools. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with a field focus at the Al-Istiqamah Ngatabaru Modern Islamic Boarding School, Central Sulawesi. Data collection methods are carried out through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis method uses data reduction techniques, presentation, verification, and conclusions. The research found that strengthening disciplinary character education and developing disciplinary character were two important activities at the Al-Istiqamah Ngatabaru Modern Islamic Boarding School, South Sulawesi. Through these two activities, the disciplined character of students can be realized to support various religious activities in Islamic boarding schools. From this disciplined character in participating in religious activities, students become individuals who master a lot of religious knowledge and always behave well in everyday life.

Abstract

An important issue facing the Indonesian nation today is a moral crisis. Educational institutions, which are expected to be at the forefront of shaping student character, have not been effectively fulfilling this role. This study aims to assess the character building in Al-Azhar Mandiri High School Palu through the Tahfizul Qur'an program and its implications. This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive methodology. Data sources include primary data, collected from the principal, tahfidz teachers, and Al-Azhar Mandiri High School Palu students, and secondary data, obtained through relevant literature. The data analysis technique used is qualitative data analysis with an interactive model. The results indicate that the Tahfizul Qur'an learning at Al-Azhar Mandiri High School Palu is conducted through activities such as muroja'ah (review), tilawati (recitation), verse connection, and memorization deposits. Several factors hinder the tahfidz activities, including unachieved memorization targets, lack of motivation to participate in tahfizul Qur'an learning, quick forgetfulness of memorized verses, and insufficient parental support and motivation. The tahfidz program at Al-Azhar Mandiri High School Palu has significant implications for the formation of religious character and responsibility among students. However, challenges such as motivation and parental support need to be addressed to enhance the program's effectiveness. The study concludes that while the Tahfizul Qur'an program at Al-Azhar Mandiri High School Palu positively impacts student character development, notable challenges must be overcome to optimize its benefits.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the actualization of inclusive values in multi-religious schools from a multicultural education perspective. A qualitative approach with a library research method was employed. Data were collected through a systematic literature search of relevant scholarly journal articles and academic books, selected using inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis and thematic analysis to identify key concepts, patterns, and major themes related to the implementation of inclusive values. The findings indicate that inclusive values are effectively actualized through the integration of values into learning processes, the strengthening of teachers’ roles as agents of multicultural education, and the development of dialogical and equitable school culture and policies. This study concludes that multicultural education serves as a practical framework for building an inclusive educational ecosystem in multi-religious schools rather than merely a normative discourse.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the application of the communicative language teaching (CLT) method in enhacing Arabic reading skills (maharah al-qira'ah) in students at MTsN 3 Palu. The method used was qualitative using Miles and Huberman's analysis from data of observations, interviewes, and documenties. The results of the study showed that the application of the Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) method in teaching reading skills at MTsN 3 Kota Palu has been proven to have a significant impact on improving students’ communicative and holistic reading abilities through systematic implementation and the use of interactive and meaningful learning strategies. The research findings indicated that the success of CLT is largely determined by systematic teaching implementation through introductory, core, and concluding stages, as well as the use of communicative strategies such as loud reading, repetitive reading, reducing reading anxiety, text chunking, and collaborative reading. This study reinforces CLT’s position as a flexible and contextual approach in Arabic language learning, while also providing a practical contribution in the form of an implementation model that teachers can use as a reference. The strengths of this study lie in its comprehensive and contextual analysis and the integration of religious values into learning.

Abstract

Digital transformation fundamentally altered how Generation Z constructs aqidah (theology), making social media the primary religious information source and challenging traditional authorities. This study is vital because theological fragmentation risks superficiality and cognitive dissonance among future religious educators. Prior research neglected the specific phenomenological process of tauhid (monotheism) construction by Gen Z. Utilizing Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology, this qualitative study explored the "lived experience" of 18 Islamic Religious Education (PAI) students at UIN Datokarama Palu. Active social media users, selected via purposive sampling, were analyzed using Moustakas's method following in-depth interviews and digital document analysis. The key finding is "Digital Epistemological Bricolage," characterized by five themes: liquid faith, algorithmic authority, micro-content theology, emotional resonance, and dialogical construction. The study concludes that religious authority has shifted from scholarly capacity to digital metrics. This urgently requires transformative pedagogy in Islamic higher education that integrates critical digital religious literacy to preserve theological depth.

Abstract

This study discusses the contribution of the Al-Hasyimi Calligraphy Art Studio in Palu in improving student learning outcomes in the Al-Khat course within the Arabic Language Education Program (PBA) at UIN Datokarama Palu. The main focus of this research is how the studio supports students’ mastery of calligraphy skills, particularly in the aspects of Arabic script aesthetics, writing techniques, and training discipline. Calligraphy is an essential skill in Arabic language learning; therefore, the presence of non-formal institutions such as calligraphy studios plays a strategic role in strengthening practical learning. This study employs a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects include the studio manager, lecturers of the Al-Khat course, and PBA students who are both active and inactive in participating in the studio’s training activities. The results show that students who actively participate in the studio's activities experience significant improvements in writing quality, understanding of various khat styles, and training discipline. The studio applies diverse teaching methods such as lectures, demonstrations, drills, evaluations, and the use of technology through infocus media, which effectively complement formal academic instruction on campus. Thus, the Al-Hasyimi Studio plays an important role as an educational partner in calligraphy learning, encompassing technical, aesthetic, spiritual, and professional dimensions. The studio not only complements formal classroom learning but also serves as a space for character formation and holistic student development. Therefore, collaboration between educational institutions and calligraphy studios is highly recommended to ensure effective and contextual learning.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the perceptions of students of the Arabic Language Education Department at UIN Datokarama Palu, Class of 2022, regarding the use of the Duolingo application in improving their Arabic vocabulary mastery. The research is based on the need for engaging and flexible learning media that can support continuous vocabulary acquisition, considering that conventional learning methods are often perceived as lacking variety and authentic contextual exposure to the Arabic language. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach involving seven purposively selected students based on their active use of Duolingo. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that most students hold positive perceptions of Duolingo, particularly due to its interactive features such as reading, listening, writing, and speaking exercises, which help enrich vocabulary gradually. Gamification elements, including points, levels, and daily streaks, also contribute to increased motivation and consistency in independent learning. However, several challenges are also identified, including limited vocabulary relevant to academic needs, dependence on a stable internet connection, and a tendency among some learners to pursue streaks without fully understanding the material. Overall, Duolingo is viewed as a sufficiently effective supplementary tool for enhancing Arabic vocabulary mastery, although its use becomes more optimal when combined with contextual materials and supported by lecturer guidance in formal learning environments.
