Abstract

The Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) has made efforts to combat illegal placement of PMIs through outreach and regulatory adjustments. The number of PMI placements continued to increase, with 25,973 placements in May 2023 compared to 11,022 in May 2022 and 6,264 in May 2021. The majority of PMI placements in May 2023 were in the formal sector (55%) compared to the informal sector (45%). Efforts to impose sanctions BP2MI head of BP2MI has proposed firm action against illegal PMI placement syndicates, including cooperation with the immigration agency and the use of a special identity in PMI passports. Abstract

The threat of terrorism in the world is increasing and the changes in tactics and strategies used by terrorist groups show the importance of international cooperation in fighting terrorism. Indonesia as a country with a strategic geographical location and abundant natural resources also faces the threat of terrorism. Movements of radical organizations such as ISIS, Al-Qaeda, and Jemaah Islamiyah have made Indonesia one of the targets for the spread of radicalism within the country. Therefore, supervision carried out by the immigration authorities plays an important role in controlling the potential for radicalism and terrorism. The Indonesian government has an obligation to protect sovereignty and maintain national integrity from threats both from within and from outside. Immigration as part of the government has a role in maintaining domestic security stability. In the context of immigration, strict monitoring of the movement of foreigners is very important in dealing with the threat of terrorism.

Abstract

Human Trafficking is an extraordinary crime because it is generally involved with sexual offenses and forced labour; which is a clear violation of human rights. Autogate technology has been implemented at Soekarno-Hatta Airport to speed up departure and arrival procedures at the country's entrance; however, it is seen as a potential risk factor for trafficking. While technologies such as biometric scanning and automated processing speed up document checks for immigration with Autogate, fewer opportunities for people to interact directly with security agents increase the risk of trafficking. Some analyzes must consider many variables, such as the security of autogate technology, the expansion of human movement, and the protection of human rights. This essay aims to attenuate how implementing autogate can impact human trafficking. Moreover, with the existence of an autogate, these findings will help policy makers develop more effective steps to prevent human trafficking.
