Abstract

Abstract

Sustainable cocoa productivity is largely determined by the quality of the implementation of crop maintenance techniques at the farmer level. Differences in cultivation practices, particularly in fertilization, pruning, sanitation, as well as pest and disease control, lead to considerable variation in cocoa productivity. This study aims to analyze the relationship between maintenance techniques and cocoa productivity in Luwu Regency. Data were collected through primary data (farmer interviews) and secondary data. Sampling was determined based on farmers who cultivate cocoa and have at least 5 years of experience. The number of respondents was calculated using the Slovin method, resulting in a total of 232 respondents. The analysis used was multiple linear regression, examining the effects of Fertilizer Dosage (X1), Fertilization Method (X2), Fertilization Frequency (X3), Fertilization Timing (X4), Pruning (X5), Sanitation (X6), and Pest and Disease Control (X7) on productivity (Y).The results showed that, simultaneously, cultivation techniques including fertilizer dosage, fertilization method, fertilization frequency, fertilization timing, pruning, sanitation, and pest and disease control have an effect on cocoa productivity. Partially, fertilizer dosage, fertilization frequency, pruning, and pest and disease control have a significant effect on cocoa productivity, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.85.

Abstract

The potential for corn and rice production in Katoang hamlet, Bonto Matinggi Village, Tompobulu District, Maros Regency is significant. It can reach more than 40 and 70 tons/year, respectively. This considerable production potential will produce by-products like straw, leaves, stems, and corn cobs. These by-products are usually not utilized properly due to a lack of education among the public regarding agricultural waste. Using agricultural waste in Bokashi organic fertilizer is one effort to overcome this problem. This activity aims to educate the public and increase people's skills in utilizing agricultural waste in an environmentally sound manner by utilizing the help of microorganisms. The method used is counseling and training in making Bokashi organic fertilizer from agricultural waste. Community service using agricultural waste in Bokashi Organic Fertilizer has gone well and smoothly. After participating in outreach activities, the community was able to make Bokashi organic fertilizer and could apply Bokashi organic fertilizer to plants. This activity makes the participants more enthusiastic and motivated to manage their agricultural waste.

Abstract

Coffee cherry waste is a type of agroindustrial residue that contains lignocellulose, making it relatively difficult to decompose naturally. The exploration of lignocellulose-degrading microorganisms is a potential approach to supporting sustainable agricultural waste management. This study aimed to isolate and conduct preliminary screening of microorganisms from coffee fruit peel waste based on qualitative cellulolytic and ligninolytic activities. Microorganism isolation was performed using the serial dilution method and colony purification. Cellulolytic activity was observed based on the formation of a transparent zone on carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) medium, while ligninolytic activity was observed based on a color change on tannic acid medium. The study yielded 29 microbial isolates, consisting of 14 fungal isolates and 15 bacterial isolates. Based on colony morphology, the fungal isolates were tentatively classified into the genera Aspergillus sp., Penicillium sp., and Trichoderma sp., while the bacterial isolates were tentatively classified into the genera Bacillus sp., Azotobacter sp., and Pseudomonas sp. Several groups of isolates showed a positive response to screening for cellulolytic and ligninolytic activity based on visual indicators in the test media. The results of the study indicate that coffee fruit peel waste has the potential to serve as a source of lignocellulolytic microorganisms that can be further investigated through molecular characterization and quantitative enzyme activity analysis.
