Abstract

In this paper, an economic load dispatch problem (ELD) is solved for reaching optimal power output of hybrid systems in addition to cost minimization. The systems consider the forbidden working zones (FWZs), dynamic load demand, wind farms, and solar photovoltaic fields (SPs). The cost minimization solutions for the ELD problem are found by applying the Dandelion optimizer (DO), the salp swarm algorithm (SSA), and the particle swarm optimization (PSO). In the study case, the power system consists of six thermal power plants (TPs), two wind farms, and two SPs. In addition, the variation of load demand over 24 hours of one day is applied. DO and SSA can achieve the best cost of $15443.0753 for the first system, but PSO cannot. However, DO is the most stable method reaching the standard deviation of 0.0184 for fifty runs but that of SSA and PSO is about 1.0439 and 8.9664. For the second system, DO can reach smaller cost than PSO by $11.17, $137.74 and $323.09 for the best, mean and worst solutions among fifty found solutions. As a result, DO is strongly recommended for solving the ELD problem.

Abstract

The paper delves into an in-depth analysis of the intrinsic resistance of the inverted pendulum system which causes the modeling of the system to differ from the actual system. Our primary objective revolves around the implementation and subsequent optimization of fuzzy logic controllers (FLC), drawing inspiration from human perceptual assessments. The processing comprises comprehensive mathematical system modeling, intrinsic resistance examination, and improved fuzzy logic control with detailed membership function and rule design. In addition, we conduct a comparative analysis with the widely recognized linear quadratic regulator (LQR) algorithm, which is considered the conventional control algorithm. The result demonstrates that the improved FLC outperforms the conventional LQR algorithm overshoot mitigation, thereby underscoring its superior efficacy and optimality.

Abstract

This paper suggests a new method, called elk herd optimizer (EHO), for effectively addressing the optimal generation cooperation problem involving thermal, hydro, solar, and wind power plants (WPPs), in which the uncertainty of wind speed and solar radiation from renewable power plants is considered. The primary goal of this study is to minimize the costs from thermal, wind, and solar power plants (SPPs) while adhering to all operational constraints associated with these power plants and the overall power system. Two systems were tested to evaluate the performance of EHO method alongside two other techniques: the coot optimization algorithm (COOT) and the tunicate swarm algorithm (TSA). Both systems were optimally scheduled over a 24-hour period; however, the second system accounted for uncertainties in generation and cost from solar and WPPs. From the result analysis, EHO method was able to achieve a lower cost compared to COOT, TSA, and other previously employed methods for optimizing generation across all plants. Therefore, EHO is recommended as an effective optimization tool for addressing the uncertainties associated with solar radiation and wind speed.
